The Weller fella @ The Globe

Any of you pop pickers get along to see him last night?

I thought he was superb, his voice is timeless. @66 he is still absolutely banging it.

Still telling it like it is. The irony of playing 'Rockets' with all of the nonsense that was going on at the same time in the middle east.

Sounds like the standing area was a bit of a squeeze.

Brighton's 'Barbara' were an interesting choice of support act. Reminded me of The Thrills with a bit of Mika thrown in.

Cracking night. Wish they would open the venue a bit earlier mind. Disappointing to see the Morreti replaced by Camden Hells.

I enjoyed the night, not sure of his new stuff but thats me showing my age !!

The standing area was ok where I was. Think a load of people were stood at the back and latecomers couldn't get in. Toilet queues were massive, not enough blokes toilets.

The Modfather still banging out tunes, done some good work with other musicians, particularly the Stone Foundation.
Cant get enough of him, me. (y)

Yeah it was a great gig. Standing area wasn’t too bad.

His voice is superb and I didn’t realise he was 66. Looks well on it.

Also Hells is an upgrade on Morretti for me. That said, it’s a shame they didn’t have more stock as the bar downstairs ran out of draft about an hour before the end.

What a great venue to have on Teesside, by the way. Weller even commented on the beauty of the place.

I've seen Weller probably 15 or so times over the years, however I gave up seeing him a few years back as all gigs were the same, full of pot bellied, shaven headed blokes in Fred Perry or Stone Island shouting for him to do pretty much a full Jam set so they can leap around and relive their youth.

I realise this makes me sound like a killjoy, but they'd spend the rest of the show, when he does anything TSC (Still my favourite band) or solo and not off Stanley Road or Heavy Soul , talking loudly with their mates and disturbing those of us who wanted to listen to some of the less popular stuff he's written over the years.

Was a massive The Jam fan, not so much TSC, but back into him again with his solo stuff.

Went to see him on his Heavy Soul tour, musically brilliant but stage presence zero. Bit of a disappointment really.

Never actually been fussed on seeing him again tbh.

Yes, I saw him on his heliocentric tour, and the live rendition was great, but he wasn't exactly an exciting or animated front man.

He was at his height of drinking during both those times which may have had something to do with it, he's supposed to be much better these days although as I've outlined above I dont really know.

I had tickets for the 2022 Royal Hospital in Chelsea shows, but Mrs Jumpers got a migrane just as we got to Chelsea and so we ended up turning round and going home.

Couldn't belive the chatting when a quieter less well known song was on

From what I've heard / read, that's also related to his boozing.

Seems much more content and approachable these days, although never met him myself (that whole "dont meet your heroes" thing, although I've met Moggga and Mark Radcliffe and they were great).

There's a lot of that at gigs these days, too many people can't handle their drink or drugs and become totally self centred, to the point where occasionally artists have to tell people to "2shut the f...k up"
It was a constant bug bear at stockton calling, not so much a problem in the bigger venues, but a acoustic set in a small venue wtf

1st seen him with the Jam at Bridlington Spa, when l was 15/16. Then next time it was Leeds City Hall or whatever the old Leeds Concert Hall was called on the the Gift tour as l recall where with the crowd chanting for Tube Station Wellers retort was it’s our F***ing tour & we’ll play what we F***ing want. Needless to say after hitch hiking back to Redcar from Boro after the Drop off l only ever bought the Style Councils Greatest Hits of any future material, happen to think most of his solo stuff us ***** & he’s even more up his own **** than Sting if that’s even possible

Bridlington was a great gig with top support from Dolly Mixtures.
