This day 1975 - Gerrrriiiinnnnn there our 1st major cup trophy since joining the football league

What a load of nonsense that is.
Much that I don't like to overplay the IC Fairs Cup of 1969 the myth that it was an invitational to towns who held trade fairs was nonsense indeed. Leeds, Liverpool and Chelsea also took part in that season's IC Fair Cup and whilst Newcastle finished 10th and got a place ( Arsenal chose not to enter) the achievement was not that diminished.

If you asked 100 football what the anglo scottish cup was about 5 would be able to tell what it was, let alone label it a 'major trophy'. No i'm afraid its filed with the Johnsons Paint trophy, the intertoto cup, the texaco cup etc etc. Only a club with little to no significant honours would label it a major trophy.

Question I'll ask, does it really matter if it is or isnt, or what i think of it, its part of our history, regardless what fans think & for me it played a big part in the history of our football club, which was undoubtedly my favourite era, does it need to go from a feel good thread to a squabble, why others choose to come on here & disregard it is beyond me
Just dont open th thread, or read it if your thats your way of thinking

For me its a major trophy in a great era

It's a thread for discussing the topic in question. Just because i don't agree with you, doesn't mean i'm not entitled to post on the subject. I accept your opinion and that of others. You keep referring to it as a major trophy i clearly disagree and I've stated why. It's a forum for discussion and its involked debate. Good job (y)

Arsenal and Chelsea couldn't both be in the competition surely. One team per city was the rule, which is how the Geordies qualified despite finishing so low?

They played some decent teams to get to the final too.

The club itself doesn't even recognise it as a major trophy.
In a strange way, insisting that it is actually diminishes the significance of our League Cup victory in 2004. Which was MASSIVE.

ZDS Cup Final was a big deal as our first trip to Wembley, the excitement and build up iirc was greater than some of our later trips.
