Thoughts on Sunday's game

Agree with what your saying regarding the physical elements of dijksteels game, but my issue with Dijksteel is he falls asleep at curcial moments, dont think id trust him to keep an eye on Gyokeres for a full game
Yep i'm just much happier with Smith there on balance. I know he gave the ball away for their goal but generally speaking he's steadier and a good leader also.

On Monday it looked as though Jones was told to take it easy - first half he was very, very poor. Can only recall him trying to outpace their LB on a couple of occasions, mixed success. Looked like a quick player coming back from a hamstring injury and is a bit hesitant to go full pelt.

I hope it's all a bit of Carrick mind games - Coventry now don't pay him any special attention and he rips them apart. 🤷🏻‍♂️🤷🏻‍♂️

If Jones plays - assume he will - he looks much better with Dijksteel behind. And with Coventry favouring the long ball into the channels for Gyokeres to chase, Dijksteels pace could be invaluable.
I don't think Jones will play if Howson is back.

...............Howson....Mowatt...........
McGree...................................Hackney

Similar to the Norwich game when Ramsey went off.

I don't think Jones has been told anything i think he's still just lacking form/confidence and as a result doesn't play with much conviction

Nervous. It’s got 3-2 or 4-3 written all over it IMO. But I’ve said all along that Carrick is keeping his powder dry with our injuries. I expect Ramsey will be back. Maybe a couple of others. I’m definitely more confident about the home game.

Surprised some people are suggesting we go more defensive for the first leg. Under Carrick that's not how we've played. We're a team that plays on the front foot. I wouldn't like us to change that now.

My fears are, that all over the pitch we are out muscled off the ball too often, Coventry showed their hand 1st half and had the beating of us. Sat back second half and allowed us to play our passing game and we created nothing. I would think that they are quietly confident.

They were flying out the blocks to get the result. We were in 3rd gear. Don't over analyse it.

They will come out the blocks, Crowd will be loud and we will have to weather some early pressure. Id love it to go the other way and we come out the blocks but quite a few times we have looked a little shaky early on - If we can weather this, get some possession then hopefully we can get a result.

I am worried and i didn't think i would be

We have goals in us, we've been showing that all season so I wouldn't rule us out of anything on Sunday. Even if they fly out of the blocks, one quick break from us and we could just as easily open the scoring as they could.

I would be happy with Smith at right back for first leg, but if we are trailing when we play at home then we should definitely start Dijksteel.

180 minutes of football. Don’t have to win on Sunday. We will go there to win, but no like we would for a standard league game.

I think Carrick will have spoken to Fergie and approach it like a champions league semi final. Despite no away goals rule. Maybe not my best thought

Essentially we’ve got 2 cup games (hopefully 3) and although league form can be measured as a yard stick before they kick off I’m of the opinion it’s basically meaningless.

Both teams kind of came over as being quite equal last Monday in terms of power but Boro certainly have all the tools for controlling the game and possibly winning both legs.

My only concern with Boro is options up front as Muniz hasn’t figured and both Forss and Ramsey seem likely to miss out on the two legs. I’m just hoping that McGree can up his output to where he was mid season.

Maybe we get Crooksie to put in a blinder but when all is said and done much of our chances rest upon Chuba and the defence to have great games.

From listening to the press conference I think Carrick has this planned out exactly like that. I suspect we will see an attempt to stifle them somewhat early on. He said it's different than League games. An he knows how to win games like these.

My way of looking at it, our season is not over yet, and whatever the outcome, it's been a great campaign.
We have a good chance of promotion if we turn up. and hopefully we will be victorious over the two games, then it's off to Wembley.
I would rather have the nerves and excitement of the playoffs, than finish 7th and our season over now.

I’ve thought about nothing else all day. Which to be fair made my presentation to the board of my appalling April Sales figures (ridiculous target) slightly more bearable.

We re going up

Two mins later, I think fair play to Coventry, wish em all the best in the final

🎶Twist and shout 🎶

I don’t like the idea of going into the playoffs on a poor run of results, whether we have deliberately eased off or not. Am very worried that we will fail to beat Coventry over two legs, but really hope my fears are proved wrong.

I'd agree that we looked at 80% going forwards but at times we were flat out at the back. Fingers crossed for a draw or better
