Ukraine good and bad news

Good: Russia has had its tank capabilities all but destroyed after the re-constituted elite 4th Guards Division Kantemirovskaya failed to notice a 50kn long column of the 93rd Kholodhny Yar Division approaching from the West.
After a fierce battle the feared Kantemirovskaya were routed .... the survivors leaving their tanks and ammunitions behind.

This puts a bit of a hole in Putins plans for Donbass and Mariupol.

Bad: Putin now has few options ... and one of them is nuclear. The are so short of conventional missiles that they have ordered for Kalingrad's stock to be sent south. Apparently that isn't going well either ... non-compliance from some Belarussians.

The other bad news is that he has just been handed a massive PR boost domestically by the Ukraine's "we don't talk about them" neo-nazi Azov division who were for some reason in Kharkiv (and not Mariupol) where they have been filmed torturing captured Russian soldiers by kneecapping them. No, this isn't preo-russian propoganda, it's real.

Zelensky now has to sort them out.

I watched a news piece on YouTube done by VICE last night showing the true horrors of this war that you won't see on the tea time news.

NSFW.

There are multiple reports of a video which showing Ukrainian soldiers shooting Russian prisoners in the knee.

However, while this is totally unacceptable behavior and deserves to be condemned, there's no evidence the Azov Brigades were the ones who carried it out, according to various reports that I've read. As per the CNN report (and others):

It's unclear which Ukrainian unit may have been involved. The soldiers speak in a mixture of Ukrainian and Russian with Ukrainian accents.

I read something about a senior Russian listing reasons for using nukes, and none of what is happening now made that criteria, and neither was there any mention of NATO supporting Ukraine with weapons, or even a mention of Ukraine getting the jets from Poland as being a reason.

It actually seemed relatively calm, albeit I certainly wouldn't put much on Russia following what they've actually wrote.

I had it from my usual source. Zelensky has apparently ordered them to be arrested and tried for war crimes. No love lost there. It's possible that there is obfuscation given that they were not in Asov territory. Time will tell.

The main news is that the Ukrainian army is now considerably bigger and better equipped than the Russian.

Are you referring to the Russian convoy that was stuck a couple of weeks ago or is this a new incident?

\For those with too much time on their hands you can watch the NATO surveillance plance on Flightradar as they have their transponders on during daytime. There are usually a few in the air ... American mainly but also a small Swedish jet.

There are videos of Russian soldiers shooting civilians dead at 10 yards.

Russians tanks have been trying to find cover in wooded areas, problem being that they have had to leave them running due to the cold weather. Easy to spot locations from drones.

People are questioning the authenticity of the kneecapping videos on twitter, posting links to longer versions of the video that make them look faked.

Looks like the Belarus are getting involved. A detachment have sided with the Ukrainian Army stating 'if Ukraine is not an independent state, then nor will we be shortly after. The Belarusian railways have been destroying rail lines so the Russian supply chains are halted.

They already were involved weren't they (the main part of Belarus, and government)? Effectively let Russia through, helping them along the way?

Could do with them fully, and officially moving away from the Russia side though, and this might happen if the sanctions on Belarus start to bite, as Russia won't help them.

Same source that revealed the Swedish Eurofighter revelation? I find it incredulous to the point of laughter that you claim to have a source who would be willing to divulge sensitive information. If it is somehow true, then I truly fear for British national security.

(Naughty step likely incoming for me but I take umbrage with a moderator posting this kind of regurgitated Twitter guff and passing it off as ‘inside info’)

Aye the Belarus Government sided with Russia but it seem his people are less keen.

Good for them (the people, not government), the right thing to do.

Belrus need to get their act into gear and get a leader like Zelensky, otherwise they're going to find that Russia won't leave there either.

What was the Swedish Eurofighter revelation?

The Swedes were willing to let Ukrainian pilots fly their Eurofighter jets. To paraphrase Red Dwarf “A superlative suggestion with only two minor drawbacks. One, Sweden doesn’t have any Eurofighter jets and two, Sweden doesn’t have any Eurofighter jets.”
Is it that casual reporting thing where they've seen their Gripens with the forward-fuselage canards and gone "that's a Eurofighter"? Or is it just b***ks anyway? :D

Very little mentioned about sanctions on Belarus though, probably tarred with Russia.
