Bit of a stepping stone? Who would have been in for him? Luton, maybe Sheffield?Finished 4th so looks like only Europa League for them but still better than signing for a bottom 6 PL team.

Yes, possibly hoping to make a splash in Europe and get his value higherBit of a stepping stone? Who would have been in for him? Luton, maybe Sheffield?
Did you miss the second leg?Slightly harsh, yes, but he's a bit of a one trick pony imo. Stepping up into the PL I think he'd get found out. Better, faster stronger defenders will soon have him sussed. Imo.
That's why PL clubs have taken a modest punt on him for £17-20m.
So a step to a league where he will probably bag a hatful seems a good move. Nice weather, European (CL?) football.......and the fact he won't be living in Paddy McNairs back pocket for a couple of games swung it for him

Sheff Utd have a total budget of £20m dont they?Bit of a stepping stone? Who would have been in for him? Luton, maybe Sheffield?

Gyokeres was never in anybody's pocket.
Folks dipping out of moves yo Everton and clubs not wanting to send players there..Everton would have soon dried the goals out of him

Luton seem to be looking to build a team to be mid table in the Championship the season after next given the players they have been linked with
I think both are using the PL as a cash injection next season, neither seem to have any real motivation to invest in significantly better players.Sheff Utd have a total budget of £20m dont they?

It's good business and potentially very good. They can't include unfulfilled bonuses on FFP, that includes potential sell on fees, the 17m also includes some bonus payments I guess goals and appearances and euro qualification. Sell on is usually only applied to profit isn't it? So closer to 4 or 5m on a 30m transfer?£17M sterling + 35% sell on clause - if he goes for £30M next move, thats another £10m to Coventry.
that decent business for a championship player who cost £3m.
given the rub of the green with injuries etc, he will get plenty of goals for Sporting
Arent Sheff Utd still under some financial sanctions or something?I think both are using the PL as a cash injection next season, neither seem to have any real motivation to invest in significantly better players.
