Viktor Gyökeres

I thought that he would go for more. Teams like Everton were rumoured to be interested, and he is perhaps the sort of player that may have done OK for them.

Slightly harsh, yes, but he's a bit of a one trick pony imo. Stepping up into the PL I think he'd get found out. Better, faster stronger defenders will soon have him sussed. Imo.

That's why PL clubs haven't taken a modest punt on him for £17-20m.

So a step to a league where he will probably bag a hatful seems a good move. Nice weather, European (CL?) football.......and the fact he won't be living in Paddy McNairs back pocket for a couple of games swung it for him👍

Did you miss the second leg?
Gyokeres was never in anybody's pocket.

McNair's pocket.

Sheff Utd have a total budget of £20m dont they?

Luton seem to be looking to build a team to be mid table in the Championship the season after next given the players they have been linked with
I think both are using the PL as a cash injection next season, neither seem to have any real motivation to invest in significantly better players.

£17M sterling + 35% sell on clause - if he goes for £30M next move, thats another £10m to Coventry.

that decent business for a championship player who cost £3m.

given the rub of the green with injuries etc, he will get plenty of goals for Sporting
It's good business and potentially very good. They can't include unfulfilled bonuses on FFP, that includes potential sell on fees, the 17m also includes some bonus payments I guess goals and appearances and euro qualification. Sell on is usually only applied to profit isn't it? So closer to 4 or 5m on a 30m transfer?

That's a bargain, think they've had Coventry's pants down.

Sell on fee is a bit irrelevant, he's 25, he's already a very good player and isn't likely to get much better, sell on fees are usually worth more with rapidly developing players.

Also, if he goes there on a 4/5 year contract he would be ~29/30 when that ends, unlikely for anyone to be paying more than £10m for him then, and by then Coventry's squad will be further from the prem than they were this year/ last year. Plus if he goes there and runs his contract down he can speak to foreign clubs in the final year of his deal, so could end up leaving sporting for nowt (so Coventry get nowt).

I can't see Luton paying £20m plus add ons for one player.

VG will want to go to a club that have a better than 50/50 chance of staying up. To me he is Premier League standard. Somewhere like Palace.

35% of any transfer profit is a decent add on. One or two good seasons (especially in Europe) and he could be worth a few quid.

They have 18mil and future proofed any success.

Surprised he wants to go to Sporting if a prem club genuinely wants him, even a lower half team like Everton, Wolves. That would give him an opportunity to prove if he is good enough. Maybe Cov are still testing the waters, hoping a better offer comes in.
