Some midfield for Madrid on the horizon.Jude to Madrid is already a done deal I think. Shame really as I wanted him in the Prem. He's such a fantastic player.
It's ludicrous, VAR just misses the entire headlock partHis red card was a joke, he'd been put in a headlock for ages by one of their players, surrounded by most of the team before he eventually raised his arm to push someone away. And then he gets a red after VAR only looked at his push.
It's not just the football culture in Spain. My wife is from Colombia and has been racially abused the times we have gone there on holiday. She doesn't want to go back there anymore. There are reports that during Madrids game in Valencia Vinicius Junior was the target of racial slurs from large sections of the Valencia support.
He's accused Spain of being a racist country and said the matter of racism is in La Liga is fairly common. He further said that the Spanish Federation and rival teams encourage such behaviour.
Carlo Ancelotti was quoted after the game as saying
"What we saw today is unacceptable. An entire stadium chanting racial slurs. I told the referee that he should have stopped the match".
It really doesn't look good for La Liga.
There are isolated incidents that rear their ugly heads in English football every now and then such as the incident with Son who was abused by a Chelsea fan but they are isolated incidents carried out by individuals. Whats happening in La Liga seems to be ingrained in the footballing culture there and on a different level all together.
In fairness he is very active in the podcast world and was only on telly at that time because he was launching a book about it. Barnes’ views are a little bit more empathetic towards those who’ve been less exposed to racial awareness and he is less focused on shaming people about it.When they asked John Barnes about racism abroad he said we should sort our own house out first.I have never seen him on television since.
Two ref cards needed, suspend the ref and the VAR ref.. plus a 10 point deduction for racism. The lad was assaulted to start with, ok he deserved his second yellow for reacting, but frankly I thought his reaction to that choke hold was restrained and the person putting him in the hold should be retrospectively banned for several matches.
It is poor from VAR officials not to report the choke hold. Makes you wonder whether that was due to poor reviewing or a touch of racism. Racism is rife in Spain in ordinary life, certainly in the south anyway from some things I’ve witnessed over the last 10 yrs
Didn't Traore get one overturned for us in similar circumstances a few years ago? Against Sunderland I think. No-one expected us to win the appeal but we did.I think it's difficult to argue with the red card.
But you have to have a lot of sympathy with him, the abuse he suffered, the lack of action by both referee and his manager and the choke hold on him all without doubt contributed to the outcome.
The authorities, it seems on this evidence at least, haven't got the desire to tackle it, I guess because it will damage the La Liga brand.
Money is king, sadly, to the detriment of everything else.
I think he did get one overturned, didn't it happen fairly early on in the game?Didn't Traore get one overturned for us in similar circumstances a few years ago? Against Sunderland I think. No-one expected us to win the appeal but we did.
People also question it because it's a meaningless gesture without harsher punishment.Yet still some question players taking the knee.
