Just like lassoing someone whilst shopping on Linthorpe Road, popping them into a net, weighing them and dropping them back on the pavement to finish their shop.

No harm done.
so for 50 minutes of a fish struggling and possibly in terror it is fine to do? unless that was sarcasm ;)

Well it's not like that at all, but if you want to ban fishing you are entitled to your opinion. It's not something I've ever done personally, but I do enjoy watching Bob and Paul fishing and see no harm in it.

I also eat a lot of fish, i.e. the ones that aren't returned to the water.

I got back into coarse fishing after I had operations on my lower spine and it certainly improved my mental well being. The peacefulness of being by the water and the focus required reduced my anxiety and also got me out of the house meeting people.

When I was working with young offenders I would often take them fishing, giving them a positive activity and also getting them to open up about issues in their lives. It is amazing how this worked with them looking out at a float and not having to look you in the eye when you are asking them questions.

There are so many positives for people from fishing and the money the Environment Agency makes from rod licences but I believe the OP knows that and is just trying to get a reaction. It also seems he never fully read his article or he would have known that the fish was released.
