Whatever Happened to the North Stand

From Wikipedia:

"The North stand backs on to the River Tees and at the back of the Stand is some of the vocal support is housed, and thus is also known as the New Holgate End in reference the Holgate End at Ayresome Park, where the similar vocal supporters were located."

One third empty tonight and quiet as mice.

There's a concept you may not be familiar with. It's called ageing. People retain their season tickets but stop acting the fool. The same will happen to the south stand and the kids will kick the north off again.
Spot on. Before women and kids, all I had to live for was the Boro. I would have a good skinful with the lads and enjoy myself, sing my heart out. But, as you get older, you just start repeating what your Dad told you all those years ago and the cycle continues. I did my time as an Ayresome Angel in the 80s and 90s - just like the Red Faction, now.

So how do you explain the Red Faction in the South Stand?

They're young and daft, like the North Stand was in the late 90's, early 00's.

If the regulars move out of the south stand when they hit 40 and kids replace them it will stay the noisy end. If they don't the new kids who can't get together in there will find another emptier part of the ground.

It's not rocket salad.

In answer to the OP, it’s pretty obvious isn’t it? The south stand became the noisy stand. The north stand’s “legacy” in that respect only lasted 15 years at the new ground. These things are pretty organic. It’s connection to the holgate was only ever theoretical.

I’m not sure what you are wanting explaining? RF was a selection of fans who took to another area of the stadium to build an ultras style area. I do think many of the people from the north who were most vocal mostly in their 20s/30s moved over to the south stand given that was were most atmosphere was being generated. Leaving north filled with mostly kids, parents and people old enough to have been the most vocal 20/30 years back. There’s loads of youngsters with tickets there so I’m sure it’ll come back round.

The North Stand oldies were up for it tonight. Can't say the same for the younguns and the girls around me?

Not often you can hear
" We're the north stand red army..
We're the south stand red army
Etc

You could tonight

The Atmosphere isn't what it was in the early days of The Riverside opening but loads of factors around that as already mentioned.

I was originally a North ST holder, moved to the South on RF’s first season there but moved back to The North a few year back to sit with my missus and some of her family.

The South is great and I know some old North Stand lads who’ve moved over to The S/SW “for the atmosphere”.

I’d class my Father in law as a Boro diehard. Been a ST holder since the 70’s and went home and away over those years. He’s not as vocal as he once was but he’s getting on and the footy is as much a social day out as much as anything for him these days. Priorities change and I see loads of people in The North in a similar boat.

In my latter days of being in the south, there was always a growing number of people around me who obviously “went for the atmosphere” as a good number of them done nothing to contribute to it, beyond slagging players off. But that just comes with the popularity of The RF (who are fantastic!).

Good atmosphere in the entire ground tonight. Positive vocal support from all areas and no whingeing at all.

Lets make it even better on Tuesday
I don't know about that. There were a few lads behind me screaming at our front 3 to press their keeper every time he was stood on the ball with not much happening. Brighton exploited that situation to bypass our front line multiple times so I could see why we did it but these lads sounded furious.
