What's your favourite Cheese?

More info for the fans of blue cheese.

It's not easy to find Cabrales in its proper, leaf wrapped, form. But there is an importer (based in Preston I think) who somehow circumvents the export rules (regulations stipulates that exported Cabrales must be wrapped in foil). If you have a good cheese shop nearby, it's possible that they can source some for you. There's a shop in Hebden Bridge that I get it from. When fresh, it's quite strong and very distinctive, but with a bit of ageing it really kicks into eye watering territory.

I'm all about the French cheeses.

A nice heart shaped nuefchatel or a pont l'eveque or livarot

All time fave is roquefort though

I can’t get away with blue cheese - it’s the aftertaste.

Yes, there are lots of different varieties and flavours. I tried another, last weekend, at Mainsgill Farm - just always the same outcome. Regret. 🤣

Maybe I’m one of those people who are genetically intolerant of butyric acid. I don’t like sauerkraut or Parmesan cheese, either. And olives - I try them every time we’re in Greece or Italy, on the assumption they’d be better there than anywhere. All contain butyric acid…

Edit. Also Toblerone, Hershey Bars and vomit, contain it. All disliked by me.

Double edit. But I like other cheeses and yoghurt - which also contain it. That’s me confused, this morning.

My favourite for a long time now (dating back to when I lived in France, some 40 years ago) is Gaperon. It's a cow's milk cheese flavored with cracked peppercorns and garlic that has been produced for over 1200 years in the Auvergne region.

As it says in Steve Jenkins' 1996 book, Cheese Primer:

As it matures, it develops a soft and buttery consistency and an intense garlic and pepper flavor.

Just gorgeous.

Not always easy to find in the UK, though.

You don't like the taste of vomit? What a princess!

The Comte cheese sounds good. I'm not sure about the vegan cheese, I have been a vegetarian for as long as I can remember and in the late 80s and early 90s the vegetarian range of food wasn't as good as it is now and I remember getting a vegan cheese pasty and I didn't like it and it has put me off trying vegan cheese since.
Try Mouse’s Favourite Camblue.
When I ate diary it would have been a nice smelly Stilton.

I gnaw parmesan down to the rind, and if the rind isn't to tough I'll attempt that too.
With the rind from parmesan cheese I use it in cheese sauces, put the full rind in then fish it out before using the sauce. It still gives a nice hint of the flavour and it gives a use to something that would normally be wasted.

I can't wait to go shopping next week in Morrisons(I hate shopping in most circumstances and avoid it if possible) I'm going to be looking at the deli counter to see if I can find some of these cheeses that have been recommended! Crackers, pickles, A variety of cheeses and a cheese tasting evening with my Mrs sounds good to me 😁.

Immitation as flattery obvs. I buy Cabrales in Yorkshire for a few quid a lump. You haven't had it have you. I mean, when I lived in Andalucia, I couldn't get hold of it that easily either.
The availability of decent cheese is the one significant failing of Malaga / Andalucia

I haven’t met a cheese (yet) I didn’t like. My favourite though is Blue Stilton. The only reason I look forward to Christmas (yep I’m a bah humbug type of guy) is I’ll get a pot off all my immediate family members. 😋😋😋

A bit of a cheesy question.
My favourite cheese is Red Leicester and I bought a small block from the Morrisons Deli counter yesterday and it is absolutely delicious it's called Belton Farm red fox crunchy Red Leicester it is one of the best cheeses I have tasted in a long time.
So I just thought I would ask what other people's favourite is and get some recommendations in the process.
I get Red Fox from ALDI and it’s my favourite cheese by a mile!!!

Sardinian casu marzu, close your eyes and hold your nose. It is something else but not for the feint hearted.
