Where do we go from here?

Offer Tony Mowbray big money to take a step down from the mackems?

Offer Neil Warnock a wedge to come and fix what wasn’t broken?

Young Inexperienced manager to come in with to turn around a squad going less than a point per game?

An experienced manager to come in and be told by the guy who got us into this mess how to get out of it?

Where do we find another Mowbray or Warnock from?

Get some stability by having a long term plan.
1 - Appoint a manager who will steer us away from the relegation zone.
2 - Build on this the following season.
3- Have a plan in regards to recruitment. Look at what the team actually needs and identify the right players. (Pace, decent age, can play in a couple of positions). Lack of depth in midfield etc.
4 - stop the rot what has been going on for years. Chopping and changing managers. Hence starting all over again with new players and systems. This will obviously happen with the new manager but we need stability and fast.

Sounds easy!!

I’ve been speaking to my ‘contact’ who says that discussions with Carrick have come to an end.. but we are further forward with a foreign coach who hasn’t been mentioned yet? The club is apparently keen to keep Leo involved and progress Lee Cattermole.

Annoying he doesn’t know the name, or wouldn’t tell me the name.

He did tell me we were speaking to Southgate.. which I though was a load of bull.. but it turned out to be true.

Maybe a Daniel Farke type of appointment for us then?

Tim Walter would be my absolute out of nowhere guess..

As far as the experienced manager in the Tony Mowbray/Neil Warnock type of area..

Experienced, knows the league, available, has a bit about him and there is a huge amount of young Irish talent emerging right now. Would he be willing to work with our current coaches? Or would we bring in someone like Liam Rosenoir to assist with a view to progression?

Realistic, pragmatic..

To be honest - I would do what we are doing - speaking to some of the top young coaches - ask them to explain what changes they would make to advance the team.

We can't just keep doing the same thing.

I would also want there to be agreement between that coach and Scott about the ongoing plan.

Pick the one that gives the best interview with a good plan.

Interview over 50 of them.. and put a plan together based on the best of what they have to say!

Then get Valdas Dambrauskas through the door and find the Croatian, Bulgarian, Lithuanian & Latvian wonder kids of the future, building a promotion/premier league winning squad for £500k

Saw that on Twitter. Apparently a Lithuanian who has previously worked with Manchester United, Fulham and Brentford acadamies. I’ve never heard of him-obviously!
I’ve been reading an interview with him.. clever bloke. Some extremely interesting observations that relate directly to our problems of late..

Spaniards showed an example of how to play without a center forward. However, does this set-up work only when you have such world-class midfielders like Xavi Hernandez or Andres Iniesta?

I do not think it is so. The tactics is not particularly new. Coaches select their tactics depending on the players they have at their disposal. True, Spain boasts superstar midfielders, but such tactics has been used in club games too. Manchester United played it for most of the 2008 season and won the Champions League. At the time, they had no fewer than three world-class forwards: Wayne Rooney, Christiano Ronaldo, and Carlos Tevez. They played without number 9 and constantly rotated. Even before that, in 1998 and several years since, Spartak Moscow employed the tactics which earned its coach Oleg Romantsev a lot of criticism. His argument in favor of the forward-less game was simple: the number of forwards does not determine the team's performance. You could have 3 or 4 of them in the field, yet if they don't get the chance to get hold of the ball, nothing good will come out of it. Barcelona, too, played all season like that. The fact that, after Barcelona's contract with Jordi Alba, the Spanish team has 8 players from this club, made the coach's work significantly easier. There was no need of inventing something new, they were already in tune.

He speaks well regarding the modern game, the lack of reliance on strikers for goals.. sounds like he’d be right up our street.
