Who will be crying out in chorus an allegiance to the king?

I've nothing against Charles - in fact I've always had a soft spot for him, and never liked the press' treatment of him. Comments about his ears etc if applied to anyone else would be called out as the bullying they are.

Having said all that, the monarchy is an anachronism and should really be binned.

Could that reply not be argued both ways? ;)
I’m trying to think what the opposite of a monarchist bootlicker is? Anyway Boromart encapsulates him/her. When I saw the thread title I instantly thought of his face turning red infront of his tablet, wiping crumbs from his morning toast from his mouth before launching his retort on the keypad. 😂

I'm not anti or pro royal, they just don't hold much if any real life relevance to me.
I like history and traditions and the royals have plenty of that, but at this time in my life I'm more concerned how I'm going to pay my bills, put food on the table and whether I will be having a good or bad day with my arthritis and mental health.

I'm a republican and an atheist so be a tad hypocritical pledging the oath.

If people want to, and feel a sense of patriotism or whatever that's entirely up to them and nowt to do with me.

Everyone crack on and do what they want to do - meh 🤷🏻‍♂️🤷🏻‍♂️

You bootlickers don’t like opposing opinions, do you 🙄
So we are bootlickers because we as a country turn out to welcome a new king to the throne, a tradition in this country that has lasted many hundreds of years but because a lot of modern society has decided they are bored with them or decided it is no longer relevant in their lives, we we are all bootlickers, you’re an odd ball son.

pro/anti monarchy isn’t really the issue here is it?

Pledging allegiance to a another human being that you don’t know is either a meaningless gesture (remember clap for nurses) and/or a ridiculous idea.

The sinister part is that millions will do it.

It’s all just a little bit silly, isn’t it?
Golden carriages, magic hats, ancient ceremonial stones getting carted 100s of miles, lots of bowing, everybody chanting allegiance to their betters on the doorstep…
It’s a little bit embarrassing, really, in this day and age and with the nation skint and heading down the swanny in so many ways.

That said, I hope everybody who goes in for that sort of thing has a lovely day, as god knows people deserve a party and some distraction from the mess we are in……

It is that embarrassing, millions around the world will tune in to watch it. ;)

I'm doubtless being pedantic here but clapping for nurses wasn't a meaningless gesture for me. It was for Johnson and co but I remain grateful for the NHS and all frontline workers who kept us alive during the worst of the pandemic.
