Who's coming down from the Prem?

As much as I'd love Everton to get relegated, I can't see it. They've got the most points and the softest run in.

Obviously there's some huge 6 pointers left that are going to be massively influential on who goes down. Everton, Luton and Forest have barely taken a point from the top half times between them so the following matches are probably going to be what decides it with the assumption none of them will take points from their fixtures against the top half teams. Forest's only remaining home matches are against Chelsea and City.

Saturday 20th April
Luton v Brentford

Sunday 21st April
Everton v Forest

Saturday 27th April
Everton v Brentford
Wolves v Luton

Friday 3rd May
Luton v Everton

Saturday 4th May
Sheff Utd v Forest

Saturday 11th May
Everton v Sheff Utd

Sunday 19th May
Burnley v Forest
Luton v Fulham

I think looking at those fixtures I would back Forest to go down. Luton have 3 winnable home matches.

So at this point last season, the bottom of the clubs to drop were a point worse off than Luton (3rd bottom this time and a good bit clear of Burnley beneath them) The other 2 were 4 and 5 points better off than Luton, respectively.

I know I'm like a scratched record, but it's perhaps no surprise that 4 clubs could break the 90 point barrier this season, considering the strength that came into the champo for the campaign.

I guess on the plus side, if we were going to pick a season to have as our transition one between last season, this one and the 24/25 season, this is the one to have considering that we could have gotten 90-91 points and quite possibly still not gone up.🤔
That is a great way of looking at it.

Imagine if we had had one of our best ever seasons points wise and still fallen short?

Better to keep our powder dry for next season.

Burnley beating Sheffield United 2-0 and now only 3 points from safety.

Luton losing, so the bottom 3 aren't changing this weekend as it stands.

The three that went up last season are closing in on conceding 250 goals between them this season. The quality gap between EPL and EFL has probably never been bigger.

I've wanted Everton relegated for the past 2-3 years. They have been awful. Yet somehow keep surviving.

This year they have a significant points reduction. Yet will almost certainly still survive. This has been a genuinely poor prem. You'd argue that only one relegation place has been available since September. Sheff UTD and Burnley have been that bad.

Yet still Everton will survive. Luton have at least given it a go. They were never good enough. I doubt you'd have 3 poorer sides than Sheff UTD / Burnley and Luton. It's almost enough to make us not want Boro to go up. Burnley walked the league last season. Absolute cannon fodder since.

Luton have just been beaten 5-1 twice in a row, with only 1 win in 13.

Burnley have 1 loss in 7 and just won 4-1 today.

Surely Burnley are giving it a go too by those standards.

If it wasn't for their goalkeeper making huge unforced errors and costing them multiple wins recently, they'd be out of the relegation zone right now.

I'd say that the particular weaknesses of these three teams has been massively exploited by the step up.

Sheffield United: Well suited to the Championship, but lacking in PL quality and ownership means that there wasn't enough money/joined up thinking to bridge the gap.

Burnley: Similar to us in 2016 - abandoned the side that got them there. Have spent a fortune trying and Kompany has tried to implement a particular style while getting pumped every week.

Luton: nowhere near enough quality. Every match is a cup tie. So they give it their all, play for set pieces and try and 'bully' sides by being more physical - but they just don't have any premier league quality players.

Burnley only 4 points behind Everton
When Everton lose to Liverpool with their 'game in hand' their goal difference will worsen
If Forest beat Everton tomorrow their goal difference will get worse again
Then Luton would be 2 points behind Everton and still have them to play at home. They've beat them twice already this season

I don't get the love in for Luton , but wanted to give the Everton haters some consolation after today

That game were Luton were 3-0 up at half to go onto lose the game was when I thought they’ve had it. They’d been playing fairly well but not getting any points around that time, now they’re getting no points but playing badly too.

they just havent got the squad depth others have got. they are decimated by injuries etc, as a lot of teams are at this stage of the season, but now are suffering. their first choice eleven play suprisingly good & effective footy, and not just physical direct stuff.

I think it will be the bottom 3 as is - maybe Luton, who I thought would be lucky to get double points at the start of the season, they lacked any quality in promotion ( though signing Barkley & a couple of others has really added to their team ethic ), could escape if Everton implode or them & Forest have more points taken off..

Everton's - soon to be - new owners seem to be hedging their hedge fund on the take over, that could do for them more than how they do on the pitch..
