Why does John Foster insist on blasting out 'Freed from Desire' literally a second after the referee blows for FT?

I would scrap the light show for games on tv or at least wait a couple of minutes. The lights and music was far too quick on Wednesday

The problem is he starts it at the wrong point. He should kick it off 10 seconds in to the bit where the dancing starts. Or just play Pig Bag.

I dislike it for the same reason I don't like goal music: let fans celebrate the way they want to celebrate rather than drowning them out with the MFC-mandated song. It's not as if the Riverside is a library after a win.

It's particularly galling when a player's had a great game and he doesn't get his name chanted because the music's playing instead.

Freed from Desire was blasted out in Dublin after Ireland won the Grand Slam too. It’s become the go to celebration music the last few years.

As a big house music fan I’ve always like the track anyway!
It does get used by A LOT of sides as celebration music. I was in Belgium for work during the 2018 WC and we'd head to Antwerp's big square to watch the games after the graft had finished.
Obviously it was packed with 10k plus for Belgium's games and whenever they won (which was often) THAT would get thrown on at the end....

I like the song, and I enjoy it being played, but I would prefer if there was at least a minute or two after the final whistle to allow the fans to show appreciation.

i remember standing in the Holgate freezing in the mid 80s thinking at least I’m So Excited isn’t being played at the final whistle🙈

I think I've got why it's such a divider. See , older fans not too keen , younger fans love it. Well , Gala released it in Jan 97 but would be prominent through Feb and March, April too. At the time , Rav , Juninho and Emerson, but also the time of the 3 point debacle about to break over us , and then the League Cup final fail, relegation and FA cup fail. So, older fans subliminally reference this through the music of the time , and it makes them remember sad and frustrating times . Younger fans have no such references, other than stories passed down, so happy to get into the beat. 🕺

It would be weird starting it after 3 minutes.
If it is about crowd control maybe he should play this one. Then we would know it was time to head home.
Well most of us over 50 anyway.

I think we should be coming up with our own song for full time. I remember the Belgium fans signing it during the last euros and it seems to have gained popularity in stadiums since then. In stead of copying we should at least try and be a bit original.

This was on BBC's tribute to Burt Bacharach. I remember something like Freed from Desire being played in The Madhouse and in my drunken state bouncing around the dancefloor, then, in a flash, you hear. "You say, this guy..."

In my single state, panic set in. "Oh my god, I am in the middle of the dancefloor on my own, naked to the lights that have just come up. Do I:

a) Dance on my own slowly?
b) Scan the seats for a single girl and then make the long walk over to her, (and the even longer walk of shame back)? or...
c) Pretend I have seen my mates off the dancefloor and make my way home, alone. Again.?

Invariably it was always c).

Why would you start it 2-3 minutes after the game has finished, when the place is deserted barring the south stand and a scattering of other fans?

People are moaning about fans leaving 15 minutes before the game has even ended, how many do you think will be left then?

I think people wanting it to kick in with the chorus a bit quicker (like it does before the match) is a fair argument.

But to suggest it kills the atmosphere is just living in a different reality, for that to be true the crowd wouldn't engage with it (like Steel River). Just on Wednesday you had the whole south stand jumping up and down signing and singing along with "Chuba's on fire", the kids in the GRZ love it (my daughter certainly does) and I often see people in the North stand dancing and singing.

People on here for years have wanted rid of Pig Bag (I don't love or hate it personally) and every time they have tried something different like the Power Game or Steel River it's been considerably worse, to the point where we're now back to Pig Bag in it's entirety because the crowd at least engages with the music.

It kills the atmosphere at FT.

Noticed it for a few games now. The crowd seems to want to celebrate the win and yet he ruins the chants/celebrations by doing this.

I wonder if it's worth against Coventry not doing this, to see what the atmosphere is like, ready before the PO's.

If we won the PO semi-final tie at home after the 2nd leg, I can imagine the whole stadium would be bouncing and we wouldn't need 'Freed from Desire' being blasted at a 1,000 decibels.
I mentioned this on the boro forum thread, it really annoys me.

People were joining in with ‘Chubbas on fire…’ and he added a few other songs for archer and Stefan that I heard before I left… lots seemed to be joining in…🤷🏼‍♂️

Awful piece of music played far too early.
But I'm more bothered about the acres of seats left empty with 15 minutes to go. Why leave when playing the best football for nearly 20 years?
I'd always assumed people leave early to make sure they miss the full-time music.
