Wilder favourite for Burnley???

Sky didn't ask him.

The Gazette did, and they love any crumbs they find.
Wouldn't surprise me if Craig Johns was inspired to ask by reading this thread.

"Middlesbrough manager Chris Wilder, who has also been linked with the job, has told Sky Sports he is not interested in replacing Dyche at Turf Moor."

Apologies, apparently Sky have also asked him, according to this article on their website.

Chris Wilder is a contender to replace Sean Dyche at Burnley, with the Clarets concerned about losing their manager to a Premier League rival this summer.

Former Sheffield United boss Wilder, 53, is expected to become one of the hottest properties of the close season, with a host of clubs in England’s top two divisions interested.

Burnley hope Dyche will stay but his excellent work in establishing them as a Premier League club has attracted plenty of interest, including from Crystal Palace.

It remains uncertain whether Palace manager Roy Hodgson will stay beyond his contract, which runs until the end of the season.

Both Dyche and Wilder have admirers at Selhurst Park, as do Eddie Howe and Frank Lampard.

Sources claim that, while Palace will not make a final decision on Hodgson until the closing weeks of the campaign, the process of finding a replacement has begun — though paying compensation of £3.5million to Burnley may prove a stumbling block.

Dyche has also been linked to Newcastle, where manager Steve Bruce is under growing pressure.

But even if he stays at Turf Moor, it looks likely Wilder will have plenty of options in the summer.

West Brom could emerge as potential suitors — and Sportsmail understands he has admirers at Bournemouth, who will part company with Jonathan Woodgate if he fails to secure promotion back to the top flight.

Burnley will have a lot of TV money to play with in the Championship next year. That will be a pull for a potential manager.

Rooney had done a good job at Derby who will be Div 1 next season - it would a forward step for him.

Wilder is a strategist and will no doubt leave at some point.Hes not flakey however,he's building something here.

Whoever takes the Burnley job has a big rebuild in the summer and I doubt they will splash the cash. Can’t see it any way comparable to the Boro. We will be in a much better position so wilder would be a fool to leave, which he isn’t.
Burnley are just giving it one last gamble to try and stay up for the premi league pot of gold. I can see Allardyce being interested with a massive bonus if he keeps them up. Highly unlikel!

The American takeover saddled Burnley with £70m of debt, which costs them about £8m a year in interest (might as well’ve stuck it on a credit card). 80% of their revenue comes from the Premier League TV deal and the interest payments on the loan are higher than their annual gate receipts.

They will get parachute payments, but that doesn’t necessarily mean they will be in a position to splash the cash next season.

No way Wilder’s taking the Burnley job, it’s a better job here even in the relative states we are now compared to them. Burnley now is a hiding to nothing, and that’s why he’s given it no shrift. He’s definitely staying.

It’s made for Big Sam really. One last long balling hurrah at survival. Be surprised if anyone else gets it.

Fair comments on Rooney but he’s distinguished himself at Derby for me, on and off the pitch. I could see why they’d offer him the job, as a longer term manager who could improve them. But be surprised if he takes it, they’ll be better jobs available for him soon.

The only way I can see Chris Wilder jumping ship would be if an interim manager kept Burnley up and we failed to make it AND in the summer, they offered him a huge transfer war chest, a much larger salary than Boro and a pound of sausages every week.

They have a big debt to service, on high interest rates, relegation means, parachute payments would first service their debt. They will take a hit on tv rights by about £125M on relegation. Relegation would be disastrous for their new owners business model.

The best way to ensure Wilder stays at Boro is us going up or Burnley coming down and hope nobody else eyes him up. The permanent decision by Burnley will be made once they know their fate in May. Lets be honest far bigger clubs than Burnley could yet come in for him. I don’t believe Lampard or Rodgers futures are necessarily certain at Everton or Leicester, if a club like those two came in then I think we’d lose him even if we went up.

The good news is though, should the worst happen, Dyche would be available to bring in to Boro and, we could see the return of Pulis ball at the Riverside 😍

It would take a falling out with Gibson and a big paycheque from Burnley. Sam Allerdyce will be in to waive his magic wand!!
