Will Isaiah reach his potential at boro?

Akpom and Archer failed to score mainly because they weren't getting the service ...... a service Jones was brought on to provide but didn't, so it is something to do with him
They did get service. Archer ran into traffic over and over again. He had been ineffective for a few games now.

Akpom was targeted and the ref didn't help him, but as a no 10 he is as much responsible for creating chances as the others.

Presumably they were getting service for the first 66 minutes before Jones came on to ruin a total performance?

From what I saw there was no service for 101 minutes of football.

That isn't true. Crossing was not as good as it is generally, that is true. Giles still put some good crosses in. Also, a lot of our play is directly through the middle, little give and go's. These didn't come off and they often involved akpom or archer. Was archer showing for through balls? I wasn't there so couldn't tell. Akpom was ineffective as a no 10, albeit he was kicked all over the place.

Lack of service wasn't the only problem. We couldn't break down a very well organised and stubborn defence. Jones wasn't the issue yesterday. Forss did very little under the same circumstances.

Again, nobody is saying jones was the issue simply that he just isn’t good enough. We were outplayed and outfought last night it happens.

Course he's good enough. Maybe not good enough to get in our starting 11 but as an impact player he's a valuable member of the squad. Under Warnock and Wilder he was excellent and one of our best players at the time. He's shown he's more than capable of doing a job at Championship level.

After the game last night I was walking into town with 2 Coventry fans - they said how relieved they were when they saw Isaiah Jones name missing from the starting line up, his pace had alarmed them in the 1st leg. I thought to myself how that contrasted to snatches of conversations I heard amongst Boro fans returning to their cars on Sunday where Jones and his apparent inabilities seemed to dominate many conversations. Am reminded of the way people fell out of love with Adam Reach and Stewart Downing. Be careful what you wish for, perhaps.

Anything to do with Jonny Howson's absence.

Probably.

Last night wasn't down to Jones, our whole attack was poor, it's obvious Jones is not playing with any confidence.
I will be amazed if he is in the 18 man squad for our 1st game in August.
I also think he will be moved on if we have any suitors.

You can’t compare Jones with Downing, Jones is an inexperienced lad with speed but lacking technical/tactical abilities. He plays on instinct and has always been hit and miss. Downing went through England youth teams up to the first team had a decade in the prem and won trophies. He was as good speed wise at that age but with a far better technical and tactical grounding. He was light years ahead of Jones at that age.

Even Reach is a stretch in comparison

Unfortunately, it's a sad truth that nobody loves to turn against, and villify, a Boro player more than Boro fans. It's happened repeatedly over the years with several players, often home grown players which is even stranger.

Wouldn't surprise me if it was Boro fans that Jason Steele was talking about the other day talking about receiving abuse and it making him hate football.

Boro fans aren’t guilty on Steele it was Sunderland fans.

This will be a defining summer for Jones at MFC.
If he starts september in the first team we have had a very poor window and will have a weak season.
If he can't make the bench then he should have moved on.

I'd still love him to burst out the other side of his difficulties, whether it is here or somewhere else.

When you look at our squad we are lacking pace. Isaiah is rapid and even if he's used as an impact player coming off the bench I think he's an asset to the squad and someone who can cause defenders problems. He's a confidence player but I back someone like Carrick to get the best out of him.
