Will the Tees Valley populace

...be the collateral by an incoming Labour party putting BH into their crosshairs?. It seemed to be suggested that not only would the National Audit Office be going after him and his Teesport dealings ( which is fair enough) but that the central Labour party wouldn't engage with him and the various other projects under way. Which considering the decades of neglect not only by the conservatives but by Labour of Teesside is just more of the same which this area has had to put up with. I much prefer it he was referred to the NAO but Labour engaged with him for the sake of the area and helped the projects under way until the NAO report came out. Sounds like common sense but I'm not sure with any of the political parties anymore.

They absolutely need to audit Teesworks, the airport and possibly the development corporation too and expose anything they find but after promising more funding and devolution to the regions, I don’t think they can afford to make any cuts without it being used against them for a generation of future elections.

Has anything Ben been involved in been 100% legit and above board?

If any schemes are underway, all legal and contractually signed and sealed then they should continue. Labour may have to simply hold their nose and allow the schemes to finish.

All others, money will be being continually drained from the public purse daily so should be paused while any investigation is carried out.

Teesside is just a very, very small part of a mountain of corruption Labour will need to look at. How hard they will look........🤷🏻‍♂️🤷🏻‍♂️

He is fully deserving of a robust NAO investigation
Not disagreeing.

What happens to the ongoing Tees Valley projects in the meantime, these reports don't take a few days? What assistance is going to do come the Tees Valley so the population don't miss out again. Are the projects which he has personally championed and promoted going to be sidelined while, a list of other projects will be put forward which probably won't get to completion just like the Tees Valley Metro in 2003.

We are already working with him, and of course we will continue to. Houchen was elected by the people- he won, we understand that, even if we may not like it. We will work with whoever for the betterment of Teesside.

I would think projects not under a cloud would continue as is. I see nothing untoward however about restricting flow of further funds into anything where there are serious questions to be asked about how public money is being spent.

If there is transparency and honesty, and a project is good value for public money, I doubt a labour government would pull the plug just for the hell of it ...however much they may wish to spite the man himself.

What happens if Houchen resigns?

Do we have another vote for the Mayor? I am guessing we do but not sure.

I can't see him hanging around long if Labour win in July.
He’ll find it hard to continue his zero transparency behaviours. I suspect he will start claims of being undermined by Labour as soon as they start investigating any corruption, and cost benefit analysis of his projects.

If they get too close or stop any corrupt activity then yes he might run away

Well looking at the top statement , I suspect Tees Valley Combined Authority will become a lame duck so that answers the 2nd statement, everything with the handprints of BH would probably halt or not supported for at least a year or two until another election came around and Labour had to prove they were doing something for the region.

I don't vote for parties that just offer reassurance like the above statement, I know the majority of voters look for sound bites like above, but I much more respect a political party that is able to consider questions and give honest answers, even if they don't look good.

If a project is viable/beneficial and above board, it could be progressed irrespective of the political parties/bodies previously involved.

If it isn't viable/beneficial or above board, it should quite rightly be stopped

Well going on the multitude of posts on here in the last few months we can wave goodbye to the Tees Valley Airport as a growing hub. Which I don't think Labour Party members on here get, but probably lots of voters in the Tees Valley see a local airport as a positive and it stands out in their decision to vote for BH. I get the feeling that the airport will be earmarked for extra housing in the future which is a shame and won't leave a good taste in many people's mouths. When realism is quoted about the Airport and it's future, whose Realism? Because it is all subjective.

If you don't want the truthful answer, then don't ask the question!

BH is the elected Mayor of the Tees Valley and regardless who is in number 10 they have to work together or do you really want the Labour party diss the area because there is a blue in the area.

Needs drains to be lifted. Then it needs to be run properly, for the tax payers benefit. Not just to serve the interests of a wealthy few.

You gave a political answer , covered all the bases and left nothing that could be questioned or used against you and reassured that everything would be ok.. I worked in Westminster for 8 years as a civil servant, I know and can feel when formulaic answers come up because we were taught to do them.

No, I told you whats happening now, we are working with him, and he us. That's not the political answer it's just fact.

I'm talking about the very likely scenario of Labour party being re-elected, you may be working with him now, because what other options do you have in the run up to the election. After the election, when you can encourage the NAO to work their magic and you hold the purse strings then what happens?

Sometimes answers are one and the same. His answer was fine by me. Not sure why you are looking for more.
