Will Isaiah reach his potential at boro?

Boro fans aren’t guilty on Steele it was Sunderland fans.
Also, in spite of him now being a regular for Brighton he is still a poor keeper- apart from the fact that he is good at playing the ball out.
Steffen is twice the player Steele is.

In my opinion he is a better all round keeper, both good at distribution, Steffen for me is a better shot stopper.
Just my opinion

Nowhere near the same player as last year, did he peak too early? He still has a place but I don’t think he will reach those levels again. I’d be looking to replace him this window.
He might be much proved next season. I understand that last year there were personal problems although he started the season well. Form is temporary but the lad has talent and that stays. Wait and see. He’s ours and could be a valuable squad member.

Don't go posting common sense. This thread is all about proving someone's personal bias is actually a visionary ability to judge a young footballer by watching him not play football.

He’s nowhere near it Muttley anyone can see that. He burst onto the scene but hasn’t showed he can play at those levels again, it happens in football.

He is.

It's an interesting thing in football these days where traditional goalkeeping skills come second to being good technically with the ball at their feet, so a player who might not be that good when it comes to making saves still gets picked ahead of better keepers because they can ping the ball about a bit and it's deemed as worth the trade off.

I think in the 90s and early 2000s someone like David De Gea would be considered one of the best keepers in the world, cause by and large his shot-stopping and reflexes are, for the most part, fantastic, and that type of thing is all that mattered. These days he's slagged off relentlessly cause he's ***** with the ball at his feet and managers want him to play out from the back and he can't do it competently, and that's what keepers are judged by most now.

Joe Hart is a case in point at Man. City. He couldn't play out from the back so Pep got rid.

So when we played Norwich (a team that were in the Premier League the season before last) and he tortured their full back and was literally putting balls on a plate for our strikers he wasn't up to it? He could've had 6 assists that night alone if our finishing had been better. He got the Sky man of the match that night and they were raving about him. He offers us genuine pace which hurts teams. He was excellent under Warnock and Wilder and then had some personal issues which affected his form under Carrick. He fought his way back into the team towards the end of the season and now seems in a better place. To write the lad off is ridiculous given the potential he's shown since he's been at the club.

Your first point would have been good but I think you meant Hull City?

🤣 Sorry it was Hull City. It doesn't change the fact he's performed well against big teams and proved he's more than capable of playing well at this level.

I want nothing more than for him to be a success at Boro, I just don’t see it. He looks very poor most of the time and has declined rapidly.

He was always one of our better players under Wilder. Under Carrick he hasn't actually played a lot of football really so I don't think we've witnessed a rapid decline. He's just had some personal issues so has been kept out of the limelight until he was ready to perform as we all know he can.

I want EVERY player that pulls on the shirt to be a success, but the reality is many of them are not and never will be.

Because he had a good start people have convinced themselves that he can and will do that purple patch again. But maybe it was just that, when playing without the pressure of expectation, without the opposition knowing his strengths and weaknesses, and basically playing on instinct and adrenaline, he had some good moments. But that was playing way above his natural level. I remember Owen McGee looking talented for 2 months, but the reality was playing on instinct and adrenalin and there was no foundation for him to be a pro footballer.

Playing as a wingback, we don't play wingbacks anymore

Under Carrick he hasn't actually played a lot of football really
If he'd shown an aptitude to play a more tacitcally astute game under Carrick in training, then he would have been picked. But he didn't get picked, so we have to assume he has struggled to show that he can play the winger position, in the right manner, in training.

When he first got into the team under Warnock he wasn't playing as a wing back. He's always played further forward. Wilder put him in the wing back position to fit into his tactics and to be fair to the lad he adapted really well and added the defensive side of things to his game. Based on that I think we wouldn't need to worry about him not being able to grasp Carrick's tactics. The way Carrick has us set up suits Jones' game more than the Warnock/Wilder tactics.

I'm confident as long as the club decide to keep him this summer that he will be a key player for us next season.
