Ajax.

Surely we aren't going over this again? You get offered a multi year contract at Ajax going into the final year of your current deal meaning you'll be 28 and contract-less yet you'd turn it down because you're 'settled'? No chance!

True. But from a purely footballing perspective the move has been an absolute disaster for him.

Team bottom of the league, and can’t even get a look in off the bench at 5-2 down.

So you don’t think he’s good enough to play for a team that’s bottom of the Eredivisie?

Sounds like a lucky escape for us, then 😉

Like I said before, he’s a £2m number 9 or a £12m number 10 / second striker.

It was a bizarre move all round to go to Ajax, “the home of 433” - both him for choosing to go there, and Ajax for wanting to sign him

His only hope is the new manager comes in and fancies him in a 442 or 4231

He's training with them every day, if he was impressing he'd be given a go.

You must know better than their coaches

It's not as simple as that though is it?
That's like saying Hackney couldn't have been good enough when we were desperate for a central midfielder under Wilder last season because the experts didn't pick him. Sometimes.....coaches are wrong.

I'm starting to believe that we could sign him on loan in January. Whether we should or will is another matter.

They are indeed, but there's a big difference between trusting a kid and an experienced player you've signed for £12m.

You're expecting him to come in and look the business. You have different expectations with your juniors.

Cant help getting the feeling it would be a step backwards to have him back.
Sad for him, but thats the choice he made.
Carrick had this to say Thursday:

Carrick considered dipping into the market to cover for injuries?
[Shakes head vigorously] Not at this stage no [Looks sternly at reporter].

But it may be a different answer come January?

He might not be doing it in training, i'm sure Ajax doesn't want to waste 12m on a player who cannot get a game.
If he cannot break into the ream when there languishing bottom of the table, says it all.
He had a great season with us, which none of us could have seen happening, after he returned from his loan spell.
However that could be it, one great season in the Championship.
I wish him well, and enjoyed his season last year with us, but it's time to move on, as he did.

he took the cash on the back of a good season at the end of his contract ....& they appear to be burnt ......time will tell if it was his freak season?

he left we took cash , not a boro player any more , we go on

But we will all still continue to follow him & hope it works out for him until the end of the season . They will have to change there style of play now as it is not working out for them so there is still hope for him.
