Eurovision

My wife and her mates has a great night, and she's got money coming back from the bookies for Italy winning and the UK no votes.

I'm not sure what the viewing figures were so I'm not sure how popular it is but there's plenty of people talking about it.

Why shouldn't we subsidise it?

I don't know why people watch that crap, why we enter, or why we broadcast it in the UK. We are made the laughing stock of Europe and we invite humiliation upon ourselves. We are nuts.
It's more than just a song contest. Eurovision is a gauge of your reputation, politics and social standing on this continent. We can either take note or stick our fingers in our ears.

People enjoy it and I imagine it gets better viewing figures than your average episode of Casualty. Certainly preferable to me than Mrs Brown's Boys. Obviously there's a political element, but we do keep sending fairly pathetic offerings that aren't the cup of tea of the audience!

Yes I don’t think people realise that we basically subsidise this as a big part of the European broadcasting association and if we pull out it will leave a huge financial hole.

let’s be honest we could have an oasis blur reunion mash up and still come last.
Big act reputation doesn't seem to count fir anything in Eurovision. The UK well know this. San Marino got Flo Rida to boost their attempt and what good did it do?

That was the case but it’s personal now and so we will always come last so it’s pointless entering really.

Thoroughly enjoyed it. There are a lot of brexity snowflakes on here aren’t there Fancy feeling personally affronted by that.

I didn’t think ours was that bad a song but there were a lot better ones, so factor in a general disfavour since the Iraq war and the last 5 years or arrogance, insults and incompetence and no points is probably understandable.

I thought Lithuania and Iceland were fantastic. I’d have liked Iceland to get it over the two years. Songs were good, performances brilliantly tongue in cheek and the Iceland judge voted 12 points for ja ja ding dong 😁

I had Malta 3rd, Cyprus and Germany jnt 4th, Belgium and Italy jnt 6th.

Apart from Belgium maybe, none of the songs were in my particular usual wheelhouse of favourite genres. I like a bit of dance music, glam rock and euro pop sometimes and that is what it’s all about. A bit of fun.

Graham Norton is great and Amanda Holden was terrible 😁 and summed up why there might be a backlash against us. Eurovision is very much a positive event about people coming together and what unites us.

Some people don’t like that. Perhaps it’s time to look inside you if you are so suspicious of ‘others’ you just want division everywhere.

Weirdly, just been thinking this might be a wake up call to the notoriously difficult yo wake up brexit cult. They seem in complete denial that they have turned us into an unwelcome, backwards pariah nation. Maybe, where economic failure and swathes of damage to various industries has been ignored by the cult, a jokey little song contest will finally get through to them how much contempt the rest of Europe has for us

Some blind folk wandering about this board thinking we finished last on nil points because entry was rubbish.

Personally speaking didn't watch so I wasn't exactly affronted by proceedings.

Tune in next year for another embarrassing waste of tax payers cash. I rather give my contribution to charity than to pay for that sack of. Maybe it should be pay per view.😂

We got nil points not to long ago pre the Brexit saga so really it hasn't made much difference leaving Brussels.
The whole extravaganza has turned into a series of cliques where the music is not too important. Scandi countries vote for each other, Eastern Europe does the same , Greece and Cyprus give each other 12 points. It's all a colourful, noisy , scantily dressed load of tosh and not to be taken seriously, especially politically.

Ah, I guess the ignorance will continue then. Shame really. The cult of brexit remain in ignorant denial.

There didn’t seem like a lot of political voting last night. Cyprus gave Greece 12 points as ever, but other than that and perhaps us getting no points at all having a minor political element to it.

It does seem all those ‘we are not anti europe we are anti EU’ types have let the mask slip a tad.

It makes them happy though. I’m glad I’m not like that, it must be a rotten experience, living your life constantly a little bit instinctively afraid and frightened of ‘others’.

Well if it's political, statistically we need a Labour government to give us a better chance

Labour winners - Sandie Shaw 67, Lulu 69, Brotherhood of Man 76, Katrina and the Waves 97 (97 lucky we had the election 2 days before the contest).

Conservative winners - Bucks Fizz 81
