This is Warnock’s quote when he signed his contact extension in May.
“I think we can all look forward now - at my age you know you're not staying on to make up the numbers and I thrive on success, and that's what I'll be striving for.”
I can’t think of any metric this season so far that could be seen as success and at 15th in the table we’re doing a very passable impersonation of an also ran team…Warnock has no pedigree of improving a team from his second season to his third season as a manager, his impact has been a quick change around in results when he first takes over that create momentum that continues in his first full season in charge that window of opportunity has passed and I’m we are in serious of danger of being in a worse position in the league than when Warnock joined us.
The club seems disjointed with Warnock signings and others that seem to be from elsewhere, we still have no set style of play, long term issues in squad balance are still apparent, and our performances and results have been inconsistent at best but poor in the main.
I believe January last season was the fulcrum of Warnock’s reign, in and around the play off places if he was going to deliver us promoting it was then, but it went the other way and I see no signs of things taking a sustained up turn, talk to fans of other clubs and their surprise at our league position and underperformance, sometimes we are too close to see the wood from the trees.
A long term plan and coherent strategy needs to be formulated and executed, one would hope that this process has been started and that when Gibson decides action is required the pieces are all in place, for me Warnock was never going to be a long term solution and the appointment of Scott an indicator of different thinking within the club, but let’s not delude ourselves in thinking Warnock can’t take us down, he’s suffered nearly as many relegations in his career as promotions.
