Gueye refused to wear Rainbow shirt

Religious homophobia is still homophobia.
Wanting to deny rights to somebody because of their sexuality is prejudicial.

If someone was raised in a racist household and held racist views, they'd still be a racist despite it being down to their upbringing.
absolutely spot on. It's not their fault they were raised in those societies, but lets not pretend that he hasn't had exposure to a society where being gay isn't a sin.

Religion is absolutely no excuse for anything. I mean FFS, both the bible and the Qu'ran talk about killing infidels, should we just brush off religious genocide, or terrorism as simply 'protecting their religious beliefs'? No we shouldn't, if religion teaches people to behave badly, then we shouldn't allow it to be a get out clause.

And I believe he did not reply, as far as I am aware. I am not excusing discrimination, I am simply saying that we do not know, nor understand his motives.
He has had every opportunity to put his decision in context...he has refused....thus it's a fair conclusion that his reasons would be unpalatable.

Or its no one's business but his own
If you want to defend the rights of people to have prejudices that's on you, you can die on that particular hill. It's no different from saying that a racist should be allowed to be racist, and you will defend their right to be racist.

I'll defend the rights of people to live their lives without the negative prejudices of homophobes, racists, transphobes, and other zealots....and lets be honest here, an international footballer for one of the biggest clubs in the world is making a statement that he has prejudices and is comfortable with them, and is happy for people to know it. That will influence other people to be strengthened in their prejudices.

I'm not sure that this thread needed bumping mate. You're only going to encourage that Pembroke bloke to post a load more hateful crap by doing that. It's probably best to let this thread die. It's making me want to hit things.
he's on my block list, and was after about 5 posts on this board, just do the same, you can't reason with the unreasonables

Whatever, you simply don't do or don't understand nuance

You mean I don't have tolerance for hateful ideologies, labelling it as 'nuance' is just another excuse for the hateful prejudices of certain people. you carry on protecting the 'rights' of hateful ideologies if you like...although when those hateful ideologies were attacking british people in the 711 attacks, I'm sure your attitude would be different.

Those knocking Pembroke should reread post 105.
His issue isn't anti trans but pro single sex spaces where appropriate.
This and comments from others like JKR have at their heart the safety of women.

Done debating with you on this subject Mart. If you can't countenance that there may be something else going on, there is no point.

So if you KNOW there is something else going on spit it out.

Or are you just speculating because you don't want it to be true.

'Woke' a word utilised to undermine the concept of empathy, it's the tool of sociopaths that don't want a better world and don't care if people are bullied, abused, beaten, or killed simply for their sexuality.
Virtually everybody wants a better world. Virtually everybody wants social justice, which is the concept of equality under the law, opposition to prejudice and discrimination, but there are elements in society who view social justice as a rejection of social liberalism, group identity v rights of individuals.

Yes people if they do not adhere to this narrow anti liberal emphasis on group identity are bulied, abused, and can be beaten. This is not tolerance. This is not empathy.

I am speculating neither one way nor the other. I don't know. You seem to know for a fact.

I get really tired of opinion given as fact and used to insult people remotely.

That's why u am not debating this with you.

Men do not give birth, and believing women do not have a penis is not hateful crap. You post the hateful crap in response to biological fact and the referencing of sex based rights as identified in UK law.

Yes people who may be like you respond with abuse, bullying, insults, violence .. Its a theme of having your autonomy, status and intellect, its narrow world view challenged.
