Newcastle for me, but we haven't played them for so long the Tees-Tyne 'derby' is a distant memory. More reciprocated rivalry with Sunderland, they in the main genuinely don't like us whether they consider it a derby or not. Leeds doesn't really register to me despite working and living with...
On a side note, I can remember going to Leeds away by car in ( think it was the game mcmahon got sent off) Anyway one of the lads had decided to drive down so he parked up and we went into a boozer near the station... Think it was Yates. Couple of pints and out we went as we were going to park...
There's a small Leeds following in Redcar, dwarfed by the amount of glory hunting utd, Liverpool, and probably even Chelsea (amongst the under 25s) there. Boro easily make up 70%+ of football support there and probably 95%+ of match goers
Been to 10-15 games a year for as long as I can remember, haven't had points added to my account as I've always paid cash on the day. Scraped a spurs ticket for me and my lad but looks like I will miss out on Chelsea tickets, so a season ticket holder can bring 'aunty doris' to her first game...
I hope they go down . IMO they are our biggest rivals . Each to their own but cant see why any Boro fan would want them to do well. In saying that its been over 10 years ( im guessing) since we played them , there will be lads knocking on 20 who probably barely recall us playing them
Point taken regarding the pandemic , i was more thinking along the line of alot of the empty seats were because the home support had better things to do on a boxing day. Tremendous support by the local clubs regardless
Boro biggest Championship crowd of the season , 52k at St james, 4k+ Sunderland at Donny, over a thousand Hpool at Mansfield , + numerous bumper local non league crowds....Hats off to the region
Newcastle being local 'ish' makes it far easier for glory supporters on teesside to actually go to games, against them following the likes of Utd and Liverpool 2-3 hrs away
It will be a big problem if they start to rival City, Liverpool, utd etc. Would imagine it will impact our support alot in years to come. Kids growing up on teesside have the choice of watching a average champo team or travel 40 minutes up the road for top end prem / champions league...
Historically we are a bigger club than palace , more seasons in top flight , bigger crowds , more cup finals , however they are more attractive at present due to prem status . 15 years ago i would have classed Boro as bigger than leicester but they are on a different level to us now especially...
