šŸ™Cut your energy bills nearly in half with Octopus Tracker

I moved to Octopus a few weeks ago and was fortunate to move on to tracker within a couple of days, thanks for all the info @ThatFragranceGuy šŸ‘ couple of questions. I have Octo aid on IOS and can see charges and daily rates with half hour splits so looking at regularly. Do I get charged based on when I use the electric and the charge at that half hour slot or are charges based on a daily rate? I can see it is currently significantly cheaper but you have mentioned comparison to price cap, is that something within the Octo-Aid app as canā€™t see anything that does that cheers
The half hourly splits are for their agile tariff which has half hourly pricing - have you set up your tariff in the app correctly? When you click my rates you should see it at the top say electricity tracked. If your on agile, you'll have to decide if that's the best tariff for you or if you want to be on a tracker - octopus website dashboard will confirm which one you're actually on so check there first then adjust octo aid accordingly

Agile is good if you have solar and/or battery and / or EV and can load shift into the night time cheap rates - it's expensive at peak times so without that tech or load shifting it will be more expensive than the tracker, hopefully you've just got the wrong tariff set up in the app tho

Octo aid has a compare tariffs feature. It's in settings, but it's only for elec.

A quicker way is to use octopus watch or octopus compare, but again all these apps only compare elec for some reason.

To get gas you need to make a new profile on octo aid (you can have several) and set it to price cap and look as what you have paid and then flick to your tracker profile.

This is what my `octopus account shows

Octopus Tracker

Octopus Tracker November 2022 v1
Prices follow wholesale costs

App shows Agile Octopus so does that mean I have set it up wrong? If so, can I amend in app?

Yeah you've probably set it up wrong, easily done

Click the my details tab on home tab, click custom tariff for each fuel then link set it to electricity July 2022 and 'use tracker' for gas

You can then go to settings tabs and create a new profile, call it price cap. Set do the same process but set the tariff to octopus flexible April 2023 v1

That will show you what you would pay on the current price cap.

šŸ˜‚šŸ˜‚ cheers, I got the first bit to work so now showing correct tariff. On the second part it said it couldnā€™t retrieve the Octopus Flexible April 2023 v1 but will try again later. Thanks for your help šŸ‘

That's interesting. If the half hourly readings are not used for the tracker I wonder why they insist on waiting for these to start coming through before you can move to it?
If it was set to daily, they wouldn't know how much you used up til midnight on one rate and up to the next meter reading. Half hourly lets them assign the correct rate to each segment even if majority of it is the same price

Thanks for this info and thread. Really interested to compare agile and tracker and the app will give me a good idea over the next few months.

I switched to octopus a month ago, asked to switch to the tracker tariff after a week and still waiting for it to go through, does it usually take this long?

On the octopus app do you only see your elec usage? This has started populating the graph however the gas meter one below hasn't?

It didnā€™t for me - only a couple of days. I guess it depends how long it takes them to get connected to your smart meter etc. Be worth getting onto them.

No, follow it up šŸ‘ŒšŸ»

No you should see gas. Drop them a tweet. Try other apps too to make sure it's not showing

You won't see real time use but should see some history

This happened to be too. Thought that my gas smart meter canā€™t be compatible but after about 3 or 4 months it must have connected because the graph was starting to populate.

I wasnā€™t bothered as the bills were based on averaging day rate so didnā€™t think it would make much difference. It was still miles cheaper than the EPG I was on previously.

Yeh its just annoying that it seems glitchy.. I've asked via twitter and they reckon they are getting the half hour updates.
Is it in real-time aswell? Mines populated yesterday and from 00.00 until 01.00 today but nothing else šŸ¤¦ā€ā™‚ļø

I've just literally requested the tracker 45mins ago, I've just had an email now saying I've been put on it. It's been updated in the app aswell
