Akpom move

Been supporting the Boro for over 50 years Players come players go. Boro have endured through thick and thin. Chuba will go down as a one season wonder. he had a brilliant season for us. We have been put in a position to take the best bid we could have. Take the money and thank him for his goals. Time and tide waits for no man. time to move on.

Where are people getting 15 million euros from? The article I’ve read states L’Equipe claiming it’s 11 mill Euros with potentially 2 million further in add ons.
Sorry, but that’s on the low side. Disappointed.

From L’Equipe -
Lens holds the successor of Loïs Openda. The artesian club reached an agreement this Friday with Middlesbrough for the transfer of English striker Chuba Akpom. The indemnity is €11 million, to which a bonus of €2 million could be added.

People talking about this price out of context of a one year contract and the leaked news that he won't sign a new contract.

It likely won't be entirely clear what the fee is as always - this will be the best offer we've had and I would rather them take this now than wait another few weeks "just in case" we get a few million more at the deadline.

Disappointed but I would rather this than Chuba sign a pre-contract with another club in January - Brereton-Diaz did not look as good once he decided to move

Don’t know much about that journo, but the other article says L’Equipe report €11m + potential €2m. L’Equipe are pretty respectable as I understand it, so I’d tend to believe the lower figure, sadly.

He's followed by Fabrizio Romano and Keith Downie, journalists from L'Equipe, and has 200,000 followers, so I assume he's reputable.

There's numbers flying about all over the place. Just wait rather than get heated over speculation.

Well said 👍.
We are in a weaker position than last year, but it is what it is.

We Will Overcome

Chuba was class last year, no denying that, but we move on. Hopefully we will reinvest the money, and I have a sneaky feeling we‘ll go all out for Archer, who we see as a better prospect than Akpom and have a much bigger resale value.

Fair point, although I doubt Boro will disclose the figures anyway, to be honest.

Maybe it’s wrong of me, but I tend to think there is likely to be more genuine info if a report has a bit more detail, such as value of add ons etc.

It's an ok deal for the club.

I don't really understand fans being pleased at it though. Unless I missed us splashing out using the £22m Tav and Spence money last year?

If we get £12m for Chuba that doesn't mean we'll be spending £12m on new players. Anyone who thinks that is seriously deluded. Evidence suggests we'll spend a fraction of it.

A lot will probably go towards running costs and keep us a bit more sustainable. It'll give us more headroom under FFP too I imagine.

Which isn't a bad thing. But from a footballing perspective it's ****. We're losing our best player and I'm pretty sure he won't be replaced. So quite why some are pleased about this is a bit baffling.

Too much time on football manager I think. Where the money would go straight into the transfer budget and you'd use it to sign 3 Brazilian wonder kids. Unfortunately doesn't work like that in the real world.

The club are happy, so who are we to play transfer roulette, they know the plan, we are mere onlookers without information. Trust in the process, if it doesn’t pan out well, then that is another matter. I aren’t overly pleased but lets see how they use this money before jumping in. Personally, i dont see a promotion season this year and think the plan may be to go for it next season, but Gibson is a hard man to read.
