Akpom move

Fair point, although I doubt Boro will disclose the figures anyway, to be honest.

Maybe it’s wrong of me, but I tend to think there is likely to be more genuine info if a report has a bit more detail, such as value of add ons etc.

They might well not disclose it, but they clearly wanted the deal done quickly to wrap up a potential rumourmil saga.

We might have got a few million more waiting for a bidding war or deadline day panic buying, but we would be on the same position in needing spend that extra money.

At least now we have money in the bank and time.

The club are happy, so who are we to play transfer roulette, they know the plan, we are mere onlookers without information. Trust in the process, if it doesn’t pan out well, then that is another matter. I aren’t overly pleased but lets see how they use this money before jumping in. Personally, i dont see a promotion season this year and think the plan may be to go for it next season, but Gibson is a hard man to read.

You may well be right, but I very much doubt Carrick will be too pleased to hang around for a season , on the promise that ‘next season we’ll proper go for it Mickey’.
One of the hottest young managerial talents in the country. Let’s hope the club back him now and get some quality in, and don’t spurn this opportunity.

I agree. I am not happy, pretty upset in truth, just trying to be pragmatic in disappointment really

It's the best solution, the player does not want to extend his contract, could of ran his contract down, talked to any interested club in January, left for nothing next year.
Instead we will get a sizable sum for someone who turns 28 in Oct, and with only 1 year left on his contract.
This move has been lingering in the background since the players returned back to training, hopefully Carrick will be able to spend the available funds on the players he wants and needs. Then we finally move on... UTB

It's an ok deal for the club.

I don't really understand fans being pleased at it though. Unless I missed us splashing out using the £22m Tav and Spence money last year?

If we get £12m for Chuba that doesn't mean we'll be spending £12m on new players. Anyone who thinks that is seriously deluded. Evidence suggests we'll spend a fraction of it.

A lot will probably go towards running costs and keep us a bit more sustainable. It'll give us more headroom under FFP too I imagine.

Which isn't a bad thing. But from a footballing perspective it's ****. We're losing our best player and I'm pretty sure he won't be replaced. So quite why some are pleased about this is a bit baffling.

Too much time on football manager I think. Where the money would go straight into the transfer budget and you'd use it to sign 3 Brazilian wonder kids. Unfortunately doesn't work like that in the real world.
More just the relief to be moving on from this story now. I’ve known all summer he’d leave but to have it confirmed means we can start to see a clearer way forward at least.

I was gutted a couple of days ago, but just sick of it now. I know it’s not easy, but this should have been sorted weeks ago so we weren’t going into the season in such a poor state.
Yep, I guess his injury may have delayed things a smidgen maybe 🤷‍♂️

The majority of clubs are in the same boat. Chelsea need a striker having spent three quarters of a billion pounds in 8 months. Coventry are losing their best midfielder having lost their best striker. Liverpool and Brighton are haggling over a £100m midfielder. Bayern Munich have been after Kane for 3 months and are only just finalising a deal. Adama Traore has been out of contract since June but still has no club. None of the best young players in the Premier League have been allowed out on loan yet. Wolves are f*cked. There’ll be a fire sale at Southampton.

There are deals starting to happen left, right and centre and Boro are just a very small cog in that machine. We are by no means the only club trying to do significant business. It’s the same every year. In fact this year feels like it’ll be much busier than because of the influx of Saudi money.

You’re stating the obvious. It’s completely out of our hands, but until the transfer deadline is before the start of the season it will only get worse for clubs like ours.

we have no idea what went on behind the scenes, it may well have been Chuba wanted to stay but we did not meet his wages, I suspect we will never know

If he wouldn’t re-sign then he had to be sold.
It is a very low fee and sadly consistent with recent experience.
We had absolutely no FFP pressure, we had just had a fine season.
Way to go Steve, let’s give a little part of the proceeds to Kieran to have more flutters with.

I think he’d still have got 18+
If he goes then we'll never know, but I'm of the opposite view. One season's decent goal return in many years is more likely a purple patch than anything.

I do think he clicked last season though and I do think he'd still have brought a lot more for us than just the goals. I think we'll miss him for sure but the contract issue is always going to be difficult to manage.

I hope we can put any funds to good use

Then the opposite could be true, which then doesn't make it awful, it makes it good business.
