Anybody Just see The Ending to the England v India Womens ODI at Lord’s?

Ok so if you don't see a mankad as any different to a stumping presumably then you wouldn't have a problem in a bowler trying numerous mankads in the hope that a batsman following up has left the crease? In fact the bowler might perfect a good technique for fooling the batter he is going to bowl only to whip the bales off and appeal and send him back to the pavillion.
Well I’m not saying that at all am I? A bowler doing anything repeatedly when there was no chance of dismissal would be warned by the umpires for either excessive appealing or unsporting behaviour.

I’ve only ever seen a Mankad (or a warning) when the fielding side has become aware that the non-striker is trying to steal a run by running a good couple of yards shorter than the actual length of the pitch. That’s why you don’t tend to see speculative ones, because they know the non-striker is taking the proverbial.

It’s unclear to me why the player trying to steal an advantage is seen as the victim in this, whilst the player who’s stopped them from doing so is painted as the villain. That said, I would have much preferred that she’d given her a warning first.

So you agree a stumping at the strikers end and and a mankad at the non striking end are totally different and pointless comparing them as equal transgressions.

😂They are all over twitter on cricket. Love a mankad they do.
They keep using Stokes as an example of 'cheating'. Literally posting a photo of him apologising when the ball hit his bat.

They can't grasp that's an accident and yesterday was pre meditated and played for.

I pray to God someone does it to Kholi in the T20 WC semi/final. I'm sure they would have a different opinion😂

Read all the comments and I’d almost settled on the view that the batsman, maybe carried away rather than deliberately, was seeking to take advantage and the bowler simply noticed and enforced. Yes, it would be better for the spirit of the game for a warning, but the batsman had been too over eager.

Then I watched it.

This was nothing more than a con job. The bowler tricked the non striker in to thinking she was going to bowl a delivery when she had no intention of doing so whatsoever. It’s a con, it’s not cricket.

If that is the way it is going, no ball and a free hit whenever a bowler fails to deliver, for whatever reason, for me.

That batsman was doing nothing out of order, not trying to seek an advantage. She was slowly walking down the pitch, not scampering. Her bat was in the crease as the bowlers arm was at the point it should have been proceeding into a delivery and she was watching the play to put her bat back down if the ball was struck back at the bowler. This was premeditated from the bowler and it is indeed outside the spirit of the game. The spirit of the game is important, our recent contests with New Zealand and indeed the 2005 Ashes testify to that.

Its totally legitimate and sour grapes by the naive English batswoman....

I'm embarrassed they are winging...
Take it on the chin.....learn from it ...be better next time
You are “embarrassed“ ? Actually they didn’t whinge . The two batters shook hands and left the field. Naturally upset at losing the game in that fashion. There has been a hell of lot of furore though afterwards. It’s called a differing of opinions. Well put @Lefty - exactly how I felt at the time and why I started the thread.

Just like baseball pitcher to 1st base to catch the over eager runner.

I'm not sure it's legal in baseball to stop your pitching action midway and throw to first base. I'm not 100% certain but I velieve there's a rule about not pitching the ball once you've started your action.
Can't complain too much about the run out. It's the not delivering the ball once you've started your action I don't like. Happens to often now in t20 with spinners.

They were winging about it afterwards to the press...the Indian team did not break the rules end of ..
That's sport.... use every legal angle to win the game.which they did.
Unsporting....? Was it? So what this isn't croquet on the Palace gardens its competitive sport with a set of competitive rules
Anyway yes...I found it embarrassing to winge about it like they had broken the rules...they didn't
Move on learn and be sharper next time

👍 😂 So speaketh Ian Baird’s ears. Whinge has an “h” by the way. Winging means something else entirely.

It’s not as I said it’s a balk

You are not allowed to deceive the on base runner by pretending to throw once you have begun the action.

It's in the rules. I don't get why everyone is so upset. If you leave the crease then you are at risk of being run out. If the cricket rule makers decide that they don't like it, they could very easily change the rules. Until they change the rules, the batters should stay in their crease until the ball is released, or face the possible consequences.

It is not anywhere near as bad a diving for a penalty in football - and we see that on MOTD every. single. week.

Cricket is changing there is no doubt as bigger money flows in. I read for winning that particular game on Saturday each India team member got £3,500 win bonus. More than men get in county cricket victories.

Gone are the traditions of fair play that seem strangely to bother or in some cases “embarrass” fans these days. Win at all costs. Professionalism in full view and as long as you play within the rules everything is fair game. I still hated what happened on Saturday. Then again I am a cricket sentimentalist that still believes you should walk when you know you have snicked it or not appeal for a catch when you know it hit the ground before you took it or mankad the non striker without warning them not to wander out of the crease.

Anyone just joining the thread, you can ignore the rest. Here is the perfect summation

The simple answer to avoid all this is simple.

Stay in your crease.

It was pathetic by India. But are we really shocked at India? They've got plenty of previous.

The easiest way to avoid this is by staying in your crease and therefore not giving India an excuse and a chance to do it.

Are India scum for doing it? Yes
Are England stupid for allowing India to do it? Yes

Will India do it again? Most probably

Scum? Christ on a bike. It’s a game of cricket. Calm yourself down a bit.
