Boro v Sheff Utd Press Conference 2 Mins

Guaranteed Payero will be dropped. He wasn't great on Saturday, but no one was. He deserves another start, as the crowd will get behind him.
I was disappointed in Payero's movement off the ball. He was really static I thought until actually on the ball. It made it really hard for teammates to find him with passes. Am sure he will quickly learn and adapt this part of his game over here.

He’s blamed Payero for Howson having a shocker on Saturday, talked b*llocks about Juninho, said he was ‘led’ into signings this summer and crowbarred in a moan about international call-ups. The most animated he got was when he was talking about the red card, as if that’s what cost us the game. Nobody asked him a proper question really, or at least nobody pushed him on some of his answers.

If that is the case - why is it that three managers in a row have consistently singled out Jonny Howson for praise?
In fact Pulis and Woodgate were far more glowing about Howson than Warnock.
Because he’s a very good professional, exemplary really, he works his knackers off and will play anywhere the manager tells him to. But he’s been out of form for ages. Same with McNair. It’s okay to say they’re not playing well.

How many times has Warnock singled out Payero now? It’s been a few and he’s barely kicked a ball. Howson done the same thing Payero did on Saturday about 5 times more and for an experienced pro it’s a disgrace the way he’s performing. I think fans would prefer it if Warnock didn’t single out the young foreigner every time

There was the one-on-one with Swift in the first half on Saturday, Lumley saved it - McNair was playing him onside, the rest of the defenders were all over the show. Nothing mentioned about that. Presumably Swift was Howson’s man? Because Payero was blamed for not tracking his man, Halilovic, and costing us a goal. Again, nothing said about the idea that Howson was making mistakes/struggling. Who let Hoilett in for his one-on-one later on? It’s mad that he focuses on the same people week in, week out, regardless of what’s actually happened. In fact he protected Howson today.

The criticism in public is not consistent, and it often doesn’t match up to what actually happens on the field.

Exactly. That’s what annoys me and you and I’m presuming plenty of others too. I can’t cope with the punishment of some players for making mistake and then protecting other because they are good football lads. Howson has been extremely lazy. That’s all it is. Never expected to feel like this under Warnock but im absolutely fed up and am starting to feel like I did during Woodgates reign. Apathetic

What's the point in him moving off the ball though when he knows nine times out of ten the ball is going over this head into the corners or up to big Uche or average sized Sporar?
From what I saw against Reading there were plenty of times he was open but the ball passed him by. That's bound to affect how often he continues to show for the ball when he's not been given it.

He didn't single him out - if you take the press conference as a whole - you hear one part - the tv/radio - they also recorded the written press - I wonder if that will be played out tomorrow.
He criticised players in general for losing concentration.

Guessing you never heard him mention Payero in the aftermath of the game then.

Let’s not forget he’s never had so many “foreigners” and they’re all unfit.

Why are we so concerned with marking their players? With all these new attacking players, shouldn’t we be concentrating on what we do with the ball so as passing it to each other? How many times do we lose it in midfield in dangerous areas causing our own problems?

Definitely a dig that, very unnecessary and won't help him.

I know it's a throwaway comment, but could be quite a telling one. Starting to lose the dressing room a bit maybe? Definitely at odds with his famed "man management" that comment. At best McNair ignores it, at worst he thinks "f you then" and starts not trying.

Blaming everyone else for your own failings (see also: Pulis, Tony) is never a good look and usually a sign you're under pressure. I'm surprised at him a bit, blaming officials is one thing, but when you start having digs at your own players, particularly sly ones in public, that's the opposite of good man management.

And if he's no longer able to motivate the players I'm not sure what he's bringing to the table. He's not being employed for his tactical acumen that's for sure.

Maybe he is having a dig at the Irish Manager rather than Paddy?
