Breaking news - beer to to be banned in all World Cup stadiums

No they actually said beer would be sold in stadia in the build up to the tournament particularly in sales brochures for travel packages. Well they can now say thats right - its just not alcoholic.
Just mad! the guy defo said no alcohol at the stadium. The latest is that Qatar has bribed Equador players to have the match end 1-0 in their favour.

I was half expecting Ronaldo to be gifted Qatari citizenship and be drafted in on the back of a fifa loophole!

They will have pumped millions into promotion, sponsorhip, merchandise and product into this - everything will be in place. To pull the plug at this late stage is scandalous. It makes you wonder if this was planned by the Qataris all along
Why did they want the World Cup anyway?

I’m not sure what they get out of it to be honest? I thought it was more Polo and Horse Racing?

Is it just to say that they have got it?

Like the gold plated Bugatti that sits gathering dust and rotting away..

Tbey will have alcohol in the satdium but only in hospitality. Utter disgrace.

As for that Qatar bribery claim it is utter rubbish.

Ditto for USA.

TBH I thought Qatar was ok before the world cup. Now I think they're a bunch of *****. It's a bit odd that they wanted the world cup. I mean I dont invite the girlfriends parents round and act like a ****. I tidy the house and stuff. If I was planning on acting like a ****, I simply wouldn't invite her parents round.

I mean if the plan was
A get the world cup
B act cool and everything
C everyone likes us

I'd understand. But the plan appears to be

A get the world cup
B act like *****
C everyone likes us.

And that's not a good plan.

I suspect that the real reason why Qatar wanted the World Cup was not because they wanted the world to like them. On the contrary, they wanted to massage their own egos and show the likes of Saudi Arabia and UAE that they could hold major events.

Pointless saying it was the same at other tournaments like 2016 - as if France is a dry country you can't get a drink in away from the grounds. It's obviously not the same at all.

Can't you get a drink in Qatar away from the ground during the competition?

I know people who have spent years over there and enjoyed the nightlife.

I don’t drink myself , but if Qatar said no drink from the beginning I think people would have respected that . Some may have been deterred from going, but that is fine . It’s their rules

What they’ve done though is allow people to book under the pretence that they can enjoy themselves and drink , only to remove it at the last minute . Maximise their revenue and enforce their rules at the last minute .*******

Depends what you mean by very wrong.

As long as no-one gets hurts, arrested for being themselves etc then I hope it's an utter shambles and turns out to be very much the farce it kind of already is.
No, I think people might get hurt, no beer in the ground = people boozing in the fan zone until the last minute = crushes at the stadiums = stupid Qatari police cracking heads with batons etc etc. As I say I hope I’m very wrong.

one upmanship! Pure and simple.

A question travelling fans are now asking is what else might change? If alcohol is banned so late in the day could more u turns follow now.

Ditto for USA.
The USA has changed massively in terms of a soccer following. The clamour for the sport there is getting bigger and bigger.

I don't think they would have got it if they said it was going to be a dry world cup. Budweiser wouldn't have had it.

it was 0% beer in Euro 2000 in Netherlands, so not much of a surprise.... just really poor timing & it is Bud 0% in the stadiums, which TBF tastes quite good....

I've been out here for the best part of a year (not Qatar but very close). Rules and regulations change all the time often with little or no notice.

One thing is for sure, there is no way this competition is going to go without a hitch..!!

The same may happen in the Middle East.

I've noticed the gates of the team I watched in the MSL have really dipped over the last few years. This may be down to poor club management, they made a complete hash of the way they treat the fans on moving to their purpose built stadium.
