Can't blame the manager for that

The fitness levels of the players are frankly a disgrace. That's not Wilder's fault its Warnock and his laissez-faire attitude to sports science "I didn't realise players weren't eating breakfast" etc.

Hard to make an immediate impact when you have to try and implement a few basics just to get players in the same condition as everyone else in the division.

I don't think it's any coincidence our form under Warnock fell off a cliff after he'd had them for 6 months or that we consistently fade in the second half of games.

We'll get there now we've a manager who takes all this stuff seriously. Wilder has had slow starts at other clubs and come good. I'd be more concerned if we were playing terribly. A modicum of luck and we'd have 4 or 6 points. I think we've conceded every shot on target so far. That's not going to continue.

It's hard to believe when we've thrown away yet another win with pathetic mistakes but there are reasons for optimism.

So, apologies to all those who don't agree (but I'm not bothered tbh) but if you had been in a coma for three weeks, woke up and watched the game last night, would you have clicked we had a new manager in, implementing his very different playing style?

Honestly, I think I would have thought we had a new manager in. The possession play in the opposition half (before half time) was a million miles away from Warnock’s style, and we now get so many men forward and in the opposition box, it’s really noticeable.
But still poor final ball, poor finishing and defensive mistakes so in that regard, not a million miles away from the team a few weeks ago.
I saw bits to get excited about last night. But football is all about opinions and it’s good that we have differing ones as we are all talking about the play again, rather than what needs to change off the pitch.
Looking forward to seeing how things take shape in the next few weeks. Early signs of promise smattered among frustrating signs of ‘ho hum’ Boro.

I agree with pretty much all that you are saying. The noticeable difference last night was there were a lot less long balls into the channels, and it certainly looks like Wilder wants to keep the ball, be more patient, keep possession. At times we played a lot of nice stuff under Warnock, but that seems to be forgotten. So last night I felt was Warnock-esque, very understandable, can't be helped......but this will change under Wilder, and will take time. I've already written this season off, go again in '22.
I'm confident Wilder will turn us around, patience is needed ...... something football fans don't have a lot of.
Desperately need the injured players back, and the likes of Bola and Tav to raise their game - both can do better than that.
Glass half full👍 UTB

Agree with this. Millwall game was less obvious, but the amount of times Peltier for example got forward last night was very noticeable, and the number of bodies in the opposition half is something I don't think would have happened under Warnock. I'm optimistic about what is to come.

It reminds me of the start of Karanka’s reign, he obviously had a style of football he wanted to implement but was working with quite a bit of a dross.

We had a few bad results but things were starting to click in. We won five out of six over Christmas and remember that run of not scoring but also not conceding?

Once he got his players in it started to properly click.

Fingers crossed the same happens for Wilder and he can actually get the targets he wants in January.
