Chuba Akpom

It would be a crap return, if we were in the prem he could be the difference between staying up or not, if we are in this division his potential goals and build up play would hopefully be a big part of a strong promotion push. £15m is exactly that, £15m, it does not translate to betters players on the pitch.Him playing successfully is more valuable to us financially.
This.

Or to offer another argument, we'd have gotten a good deal at 15M buying Brit, IF he could smash 25 goals in a season for us (The fact he didn't despite starting regularly is why he wasn't a good deal) Someone else therefore would be getting a good deal having Chuba for that. And that's without considering how integral Chuba is to build up play too, instead of just being a goal poacher, which we essentially bought Brit for.

Ergo if we sold Chuba for 15M I'd wager it would be a crap return for us too.

Ever heard the term one season wonder ... we're all hoping he isnt look at jones now people were saying if spence is worth that how much is jones worth ..

Someone is only worth what a club is prepared to pay. Burnley snapped Newcastle's hand off when they came calling for Chris Wood

Also not unheard of for clubs to just hold onto players in the last year of their contract. Look at Blackburn and Brereton Diaz.

We're a club who has paid £7m for Ashley Fletcher, £15m for Assombalonga, £6m for Rudy Gestede and £2m for 9 months of Jordan Hugill.

Plus god knows what in wages. None of it recuperated so that's £30m ***ed down the toilet on strikers in recent years.

Turning down a decent fee for one who is actually top class would be decent business by our standards. Even if we did lose him on a free a year later.

Our chances of promotion next year (assuming we don't go up this year) would be significantly enhanced with Akpom in the side. Not sure how you can calculate the value in that, but he is probably irreplaceable.

I thought the he overplayed at times last night but that’s being hyper-critical.

It is astonishing that we’ve had him for a few seasons now and it isn’t until his last year that we’ve actually played him regularly.

Going up next season is going to be hard if 3 teams with ambitions for a quick return to the promised land go down

I’d be happier with Akpom, Forss and Coburn in the forward positions next season than pretty much any lineup without him. There’s no realistic alternative out there who can do the things he does so well in this system. He’s effectively doing the job of two players.

Hopefully he’s just focusing on the current season and we can sort a new deal in the summer. We should offer a reasonable but affordable pay rise with a non promotion clause allowing him to leave for a fixed fee. He may go for that rather than playing out his contract on the current terms but you couldn’t blame him for wanting a crack at the Premier league if the right opportunity comes up. Doesn’t he have a kid in London too? That could be a factor.

Pretty much the same every season though isn’t it?

I meant in some established prem teams are going to find themselves in the championship next season as opposed to yo-yo teams like Fulham, Norwich and Watford well the last 2 will be in for another season in the champo

I thought he had a great chance in the first half, could have taken a touch, but hit it first time, high and wide. Still the best striker for a long time.

I did say £14m if we sold, because of only 1 year left on his contract, but thinking more about it - if promotion is worth £250m and Chuba makes the difference, its not worth selling much below £20m imo even with only one year on his contract. We would need that sort of money to buy Gyorkeres.

If we don’t go up I would expect him to move on for around £10m. We can’t afford to not take the money and it would be the perfect time for him to have a crack at the top flight.

I don't think he'll move on. Gibson has proven with the likes of Tav that he will honour an agreement and I fully expect Chuba to sign a new contract with an agreement that he can move the season after if we don't go up. We'll have to pay him Prem league wages but we're already doing that with Steffen so we'll save on Steffen's wages and spend on Chuba's.

Like Mitrovic with Fulham, Gyokeres, Bereton Diaz and so on, Chuba is worth far more to us than the money anyone is going to be willing to pay.

If he doesn't want to sign, we keep him anyway. Doesn't seem like the type of player who will go on strike. If he scores another 20-30 goals in a whole season, we will get promoted and that's worth a lot more than missing out on a fee now.

Yep, he wont kick up much of a fuss if we tell him he's not for sale. He's loving it, loves Carrick and he's a very good pro. Plus he'll want to smash it again next year to either get us promoted or get a better move.

my concern is someone might end up offering us daft enough money we can't turn down. His record this year has been that ridiculous a prem club might just think £25m is worth it.

Me too. I think we'll get "an offer we can't refuse". The thing is, with all of the money in the world, how and who do you replace him?

Gyökeres?
