Chubas latest post on his socials

His problem is if he goes he needs his new team to play him in the same position as he plays for us now not stick him up front on his own as that dont work.
You'd think teams would do their homework on that but then I'm often surprised that they don't. Hence Liverpool sticking Ziege in as left back in a flat back 4 and wondering why he wasn't as good.

Also remember Moyes commenting on how good Yakubu was in the air and would win lots of headers after he signed for Everton when that wasn't his game at all.

Think Chuba could play wide in a front 3 (like Rashford) but yeah, he's not an orthodox 9 at all. Wouldn't be shocked if someone buys him and tries to play him there though.

If I was him (as a non-boro fan) with his career so far, his age and a young family, I'd be looking at trying to get a three or four year deal at least doubling my money from a lower Prem club.

If he doesn't then fair play to him.
He must have made 7m+ in his career so far. Im sure he’ll be fine

On the basis of one very good season in the Chmapionship would a Premier League Club offer a 4 year £50k/week contract to a nearly 28 year old Chuba? and also have to pay a significant transfer fee. Someone like Bournemouth, Burnley, Sheff United or Forest may take on a free next season and offer him £50k/week for a 2 year contract, based on him having a 20 goal season this season and those teams staying up. At present I sure the Boro would offer more money (than say £25k/week) if he signs a longer contract.

True, and I do alright. But if someone offered to double my salary to live nearer home, or somewhere I wanted to be I'd take it. He'd be mad to not seriously consider trying to get a bumper contract after the season of his career with only twelve months left on his current deal.

I believe him and Paddy are our two highest earners? I'm pretty sure we won't be doubling his contract to convince him to sign on, and to be honest with our finances I don't think we should.

Most PL clubs who were interested, wouldn't be put off by a 3 year deal at £50k a week I'm sure.

If he stays and signs an extension then great, I have no desire to see him leave. But he is in the same position and of similar squad importance as Tav was last summer, and the club chose to sell him after the season was upon us, seemingly with no clear plan of a replacement lined up.

My only real concern is this dragging out over the summer and then losing him mid August.

I can see and accept both sides of keeping him (either for just 12 months or with an extended contract), or selling him while his stock is high to invest in the squad.

But I'd really like a deadline on it, either commit to his last year by the start of July, or any interested parties need offers in by then, otherwise he stays and leaves for nothing.

I think he will stay living the dream in football terms finally, found a home where he is loved by the club, team, fans and manager seems like a real humble guy as well why blow all that

He is supposedly our highest owner. Would a Prem club pay the £15m we are likely to ask and double his wages? If he was 3 years younger you could see a team like Brighton who are playing in Europe doing it. At 28 it seems likely they won't get much transfer fee back in 2-3 years.
Brentford might be interested as they need to cover Toney's suspension.
You could see quite a few clubs being interested at £5m and maybe a few of them at £10m.
He is also quite an unusual player. If you play him as a #9 you're wasting your time but he's also not really a creative, attacking midfielder. It's actually quite hard to figure out which clubs he would suit. Crystal Palace keep being mentioned by they need a #9. Gyokeres would be ideal for them.
Maybe a team like Bournemouth might want him so if they get relegated they have someone with Championship experience.

Would we double his wages if he signs a new contract? Probably not but we undoubtedly have enough in the kitty to give him say a 50% increase.

I hope it doesn't but this does feel like one of those sagas that could drag on for the whole window and that would be intensely disruptive. Definitely an argument for us making an active decision early if he is not willing to sign a new contract or an extension.

Chuba played centre forward a fair few times before dropping back into the hole. He was excellent and got a few goals. His second half performance at QPR being a very good example.

If you are any team outside the top 6 or so, you are stupid if not trying to sign him. He is very effective as either a centre forward or attacking midfielder. He is English. He has technical ability. His contract is up in a year so will cost pocket money.

I think they would personally

For me the best outcome is he stays
I agree. The fan usually sees little benefit from the sale of a player , whereas if he stays and is joined by a couple of good forwards (like Archer and especially Ramsey) and be joined by astute signings made by Carrick with the whole of 2023/24 season in front of us, who knows !

I think it's important that we keep a settled side and build on our weaknesses which were mostly defensive. I don't think it's a tough decision to keep Chuba, although it's hard to imagine the club turning down a massive bid for him £20m+, personally don't see that happening probably because of the Carrick effect. Perhaps we'd get Archer and Ramsey back if Chuba stays as you can see there's a lot of harmony there.

I know that the house he was renting ended this weekend and he hasn't renewed his at that property.

I'm not saying this means he's leaving or anything, it could even mean he's buying a house instead?

But yes this is information I've been told over the last few days.

Hope we keep him, he looks genuinely happy here and whilst I don’t know him, he seems a good lad. Even if you get top dollar for him, you have to try and find as good and the big thing is, gambling on that player settling. If we can keep him, he’ll score goals and we know he’s settled into our system.

As you say - it is not just up to us. If he wants to run his contract down we cannot stop him.
Well we can, we can sell him and get a large fee. Unlikely he’d protest profusely against this if the bid was from a PL club. I think people need to be realistic about Chuba, the club can’t afford to take huge financial risks on players who’ve had one good season.

The thing is though, he hasn't just had a 'good' season. He has had a once in a lifetime season for many boro fans.

Personally, I think a player like that is worth keeping, rather than flogging for not much more than the cost of George Saville.

I think that's looking at risk without taking into account reward.

The club cannot afford to sell him. Only circumstances a bid should be accepted is if the bloke wants premier League football now. Which there's a high chance he may well do.

Throwing away a nigh on 30 goal striker for a fraction of his worth when we have such a great chance of promotion next year would be idiocy and a complete misunderstanding of risk Vs reward.

And that's the issue isn't it - was it a "one-off"
No it wasn't. Something has clicked for him.

He wasn't scoring a load of lucky goals like Gestede did one season for Blackburn.

As long as he isn't made to play alone up front chasing lost causes then I'd say he would get at least 17 league goals. Which with our history of strikers would still put him as one of our best ever second tier ones.

Is he just applying the potential he had as a youth player to the mans game now? It's not like his career has been a write off until this point, he did well in an Invincible side in Greece, he had a decent loan in Belgium, and he showed enough promise as a youth player to be blooded at 17 by Arsene Wenger. He also had a great record in England youth teams. It's just taken him longer than most to find his place and spiritual home. He might not score as many again, but I'm confident he would get 18+ next year if he's here and fit, and of course show that great link up play that he did all season. His technical ability is top class.

Not stressed about Chuba at all - if we get a good offer & he wants to go, fair enough..

If he stays & signs a new contract, my preference, excellent..

If he stays for the season, promotion or not, then leaves.. fair enough..

We're unlikely to get a better striker so, just selling for the money, is probably not in our interests.. needs to be an exceptional offer..
