Cristiano Ronaldo

I guess the Proof in the pudding is whether messi could’ve done it around Europe in challenging leagues . Guess we’ll never know

Why?

I don't understand. He does it in the Champions league so he's proven himself against the best in Europe.

As much as I admire Ronaldo as a fantastic & gifted footballer & IMHO the best in the world at present, George Best is still the best of my life time that I have seen

The thing with this is, its not like Ronaldo has gone around Europe playing for smaller clubs and dragged them to greatness. He has played in a fantastic United team, arguably the biggest club in the world in Real Madrid and then a Juve team who have won the league every year since 2011.

Decent point

We do know. He’s more than proven he’d be the best player in any league and team he played for in the world. As mentioned above, CR’s only moved around the best teams in the world, hardly a challenge like some suggest, staying at Real Madrid would have been more of a challenge than moving to Juve.

A good point yes, but couldnt the same be levelled at managers, Mourinho, Pep etc all they've managed are great clubs with wealth, 4 managers in my lifetime, Cloughy built teams up from nothing, Shanks at Liverpool too, while Revie did the same at Leeds & a lesser extent, Ferguson at Man Utd

Yes and managers get criticised (if that's the right word) for it too. Surely you've seen the idiots online who call Pep a fraud and such?

Hilarious that people say stuff like guess we will never know what Messi could do in other leagues, have you seen him in the champions league single handledly demolish big English and Italian teams at times. He’s the best ever no question.

All about opinions Block, I would put Ronaldo as above Messi, though as mentioned, hardly anything between them in terms of ability, medals, trophies, records etc
Probably the only two players I would sit down & be interested to watch though

I don’t mind people saying they prefer Ronaldo, that’s just opinion which I have learned to respect as much I disagree with the sentiment I have to admit Cristiano is a brilliant player and deadly goal scorer and athlete, an actually a better player than he gets credit for some people just think of him as a goal scorer but you can’t do what he has done and not be more than that. What I can’t accept though is people doubting Messi’s ability in other leagues, the man is a genius and if you have had the pleasure of watching him live like I have and watching his every game on tele people would see he would be the best player anywhere because he really is on another level.

I don't actually find Ronaldo anywhere near as entertaining to be honest. No more so plenty of other elite players anyway. But he is ruthlessly efficient and you can't not admire that.

Messi is an artist though.

In terms of who is the best, there's not much in it. I lean towards Messi, but there's valid arguments either way.

But I can't understand people saying they'd rather watch Ronaldo. Messi is more entertaining by far. The dribbling, range of passing, the variety in his finishing. Ronaldo on the other hand is all about power.

All about opinions of course, but give me Messi any day.

Messi is better. He is better individually and he is a far better team member. Look at Ronaldo's free kick record at Juventus. He is rubbish at them but insists on taking them all. He does things that make him look better instead of what is best for the team. He is selfish. That selfishness gets him a lot of goals, and headlines but it shows he is willing to sacrifice what is best for the team in favour of himself.

Also, look at Messi's free kick record. Can you really be considered the GOAT if you can't even put the ball where you want it to go consistently?

Technically, Messi is just on another planet to everyone else. Ronaldo has the physical attributes and the desire but he isn't technically as good. I'm not saying he isn't a fantastic player, he definitely is and there would be teams/situations that suit him more than Messi but Messi just sets the bar so high.

I'd also agree that Ronaldo isn't entertaining. For me that means they run with the ball. Ronaldo hasn't really done that since he was a teenager. That's why players like Juninho and Traore are my favourites to watch. I love nothing more than seeing a player make a top quality defender look silly by leaving them behind.

Agree, the dribbling is the main thing for me, there's nothing better than seeing a player slalom between defenders, beating 3 or 4 before scoring. That's just not part of CR's game these days, it was when he was younger and I used to find him a far more entertaining watch than he has been in the last 3 years or so. I actually liked him best when he was a winger and everyone in England hated him.

Pele scored a thousand goals - mind you some of those were against pub standard teams and he might have chucked in a few from the school playground as well 😬

Snidey narcissistic cheat.
Borobuddha, I am not sure he is a narcassist. He does an awful lot for charity and I believe works incredibly hard on the training field. It is no accident he is one of the best players in the world, ever. He does come across as a snidey tw@t though. I cannot help but dislike him, even knowing all I do about him.
