It could also be a lack of confidence. I remember at one point during the first half he turned with the ball and had acres of space around him, then turned back and played the ball back to a defender.Bizarre how at times he was the deepest player, and every time I expected him to spray the ball forward out wide or through the middle he took a short pass to Fry or VDB...
The OP did but he’s wrong on the regular and displays moments of pure hatred for our players.Pretty sure everyone would say the same of Sam Morsy and Massimo Luongo.
Makes adam forshaw look combativeThe modern day Jacob Butterfield.
Had high hopes but can’t see it working out for him here.
Hope he proves me wrong.
Well put. In a nutshell, he has attributes that could be developed, and faults which could (hopefully) be ironed out.I reckon there is a player in there.
Surely at this level there's no better footballer for him to learn directly from than Michael Carrick.
I was slow to warm to Robbie Mustoe back in the day, but under the guidance of Bryan Robson he became my all time favourite player!
His marking on corner was dreadfulI'm not Barlaser's biggest fan, but not sure how you get dreadful from last night. Almost every single promising attack we had came from him initiating it. He was brave on the ball, played intelligently, and got us playing forwards.
I just see a poor Gary O'Neil. And he was poor. The Summer window was awful.Makes adam forshaw look combative
Sums him up perfectly. Thankfully we got him out of the door very quickly. Hopefully the same with Barlaser if this continuesThe modern day Jacob Butterfield.

not debating that, but if we are apportioning blame, Engel should never have stepped out creating the space for them to attack and gain the corner on the first place, dont see him getting pelters. His marking on corner was dreadful

Barlaser's passing stats are much better than Howson's but slightly behind Hackney's. He has 2 assists, one from a corner and one from open play. Crooks has 5. Then we have a whole host of players on 2 assists including Forss and Silvera who have hardly played. So he is barely an assist machine. Most of our best play this season has been through Barlaser setting up attacking play. Someone posted his season stats the other day (for assists and general passing play). He was second on assists (to Crooks I think) and above every other player by other metrics except goals scored.
Where we have generally struggled (as a team) is in defence... particularly at setpieces. Unfortunately, we also struggled offensively as well against Hull. The main reason we lost was failure to convert our better play into goals.
To be fair to Carrick and the team, our injury list is pretty much a full blown crisis. It's no surprise that certain players look tired as we are unable to rotate at the moment. We have not far off a full first team out of action. That is inevitably going to hurt our performance.
Great businessDidnt we trade him (Butterfield) in for Adam Clayton?

Passing stats. Best just to consider the CMs in this as these vary widely by position. CBs usually have the best completion stats with more attacking players having the worst stats. It stands to reason that the further up the pitch you get, the more difficult it is to complete a pass.
Passes/90 mins
Barlaser - 77.4 (Completion Rate - 85.1%)
Hackney - 67.8 (Completion Rate - 87.1%)
Howson - 54.2 (Completion Rate - 81.4%)
So he has 10 passes/match more than Hackney but that doesn't tell you the whole story. Barlaser on average gains 12 passes/match from deadballs whereas Hackney only has 2passes/match from deadballs. So they both average 65 passes/match from open play with Hackney having the better completion rate.
Shooting Stats
Howson and Hackney both have 1 goal and Barlaser hasn't scored.
Hackney has had 16 shots (4 on target)
Howson has had 6 shots (1 on target)
Barlaser has had 3 shots (0 on target)
Now for balance let's put the Defensive Stats up. And this is where Barlaser really struggle
Tackles
Hackney - 28
Howson - 18
Barlaser - 8
Blocks
Hackney - 26
Howson - 13
Barlaser - 2
Interceptions
Hackney - 6
Barlaser - 9
Howson - 12
Obviously stats only tell you part of the picture and I'm posting mainly just to put the facts up.
Source is FBREF.Those seem to be different from the stats I saw the other day.
