Djed on his way back

The ball to Watmore on Saturday was perfect for accuracy and pace. I actually think his final ball is better than Spence's (when he was at Boro)
I wouldn't disagree on either of those, points, although I would say that Spence started off as good, and has been even better at Forest, it was the last 12 months working to the direction of a failing manager and playing out of position where his final ball was worse.

The fact he's doing so well and appears happy suggests he probably don't want to come back.

I get he's 'our player' etc and shouldn't get a choice. Yet I'm not sure you'd want him back under duress and moping around texting forest mates and looking out for Forest scores.

We have been lead to believe he has an 'attitude' at the best of times. I am sure Wilder has been fully briefed about him as still plenty within the club know his 'pros and cons'.

The one good thing is that it's very likely anyone who wanted to buy him will be watching his good form. So he's definitely added a few quid to his value.

Wether he comes back or not, he now needs to prove he's a 'stayer' over a season. Also, it sounds like he's combining well with their right back (c/b?), maybe that's who we should be watching?

“Suggests“ but that may not be the case. You just don’t know. New manager, new set up, new role, new broom in the Club. It can change round. It’s worth making the effort in my opinion and I am sure Chris Wilder has work to do to sell to Spence that he is wanted and will play.

problem is if he comes back, he's not going to be happy sat on the bench after regular football at Forest. and would we just bring him straight in ahead of Jones? end of the season might suit all parties.

It wouldn't suit us, he's apparently one of Forest's best players and we're strengthening them by keeping him there.

maybe, but I'm not sure having an unhappy player here suits us either.
No absolutely not but the argument is we get him back if he is happy to do so. I’m sure Chris Wilder will do his utmost to create a situation where he returns and he is willing to rejoin the Squad. We have to try.

wouldn't be surprised if a few prem sides are interested as an investment. He'd probably jump at those sides. Which would have the double benefit of weakening Forest, while giving us money to improve us

Know a Trees Season Ticket holder and he has on good info Spence does not want to come back to Boro ... likes Nottingham as a town .... Happy playing there ... so do we want a unhappy player?
What else is he going to say?
"I think Nottingham is a dump and I hate it here. I'm so unhappy and I can't wait to go back to Boro."

Would suggest that a lot of is issues here were that he wasn't getting a regular game and was not played in his best position when he did play. Often made out to be ths scapegoat especially on here, remember the own goal Hall scored at Millwall. Djed was given a pass by Akpom and lost the ball deep in the Milwall half the ball was played out to the wing and Howson ran along side Wallace for 60 yards without even looking like getting a tackle in. It was Spence who got the flak for it.
Get him back get him playing and he will be happy.

Retired now but when I was working I went were those paying my wages told me to go. Didn't always like the places they sent me but just got on with it and worked to the best of my ability.

Quite different to what I witnessed. In the summer in Cornwall, Hayden Coulson ripped apart a village team Tavistock, he scored 2 goals and set up everything in the first half. He was absolutely flying through them. I was standing with the Boro subs who were encouraging him every step of the way. If he hadn't been subbed at half time he would have scored a hat trick or more.
After the game I asked Warnock about Hayden's performance. He chose to deflect it by talking about how well Djed Spence and Coulson had played and then he talked about how Djed was like a new player, looking really up for the challenge.
In truth Spence made little impact on the tour in which Sivi and Jones emerged and Coulson was outstanding down the flanks and yet the manager kept backing his man and talking him up.

Genuinely forgot about Akpom😂

He's a professional footballer. Kicking a ball correctly with accuracy is a basic skill isn't it

That did not reflect in game time though Rob. But a lot of Warnocks desicions left me scratching my head. TBH I would not have let Coulson go on loan either. I know he has been injured and hasn't played much at Ipswich but we have real problems with lack of left back cover a while ago. A bad move by Neil to let him go without cover.

Jones is first name on teamsheet for me.
Only player creating anything from open play, left side is awful.
Maybe Wilder could play Jones LWB and Spence RWB
Yep, had the same thought.

Bola can play left side centre back too can't he? So there's definitely options. Unless he's going to throw his toys out of the pram, Spence returning strengthens us and weakens a rival.

Just depends what's gone on (if anything) behind the scenes I suppose.

It sounds like Djed Spence has improved at Forest - making it difficult to use comparisions of what he was like say 9 months ago at Boro with what he is like now, if he came back. He now seems to be one their best players.

Forest are clear rivals for a top 6 spot, we would be crazy to allow him to play for Forest on loan.

Leaving 2 big options - return to Boro first team squad or sell. If sold use the cash to strengthen.

Selling option

I would guess there would be some Premier League interest and of course Forest would be very keen. As a young, better than average Championship player with English background with Premier League potential bidding must start at £5m plus significant add ons for me. For his age Djed has had a significant Championship experience (age 21 and around 75 games). I very much don't like selling young quality players as they usually go up in value up to the age of 26.

Returning to Boro option

Could he right sided wide with Jones? certainly could play right wing back as Jones does and the 2 could be interchanged to maximise their energy levels.

Could Jones switch to the left as he did at Fulham game with Spence on the right? It was only 20 minutes but Bola and Jones seemed to click well.
