Early Bird Season Tickets on sale

Also, just a bit of good PR would be helpful. Rather than the dry FFP line, something along the lines of it helping to give matchday staff a pay rise wouldn't hurt.

So Sunderland are £160 cheaper than us?

Newcastle only an extra £50 and that’s in a better league. It makes ours look even worse

who’s fault is that?
Sunderland are £90 less than us as things stand, but I imagine theirs might go up a bit so it would be less than £90 for next season. Of course they will be in the second tier though. :)

Newcastle £120 more than us.

Not sure what you mean by whose 'fault' it is. Whose fault is what?

Which would be a great time to get new fans on board, so why charge them even more than existing customers when it could still be another championship season they pay for. That makes zero sense
Obviously they think this is the way forward. Its not like they can't do basic forecasting with their own sales figures, as much as we might think they're all complete idiots.

Yes I do agree on that front. I also think growing the GRFZ would help with these kind of announcements, but they obviously don't think it would make commercial sense.

Sunderland's early bird was £335.

I think we all have our own views on what costs we are comfortable with.

All I can say is that apart from a couple of matches up in corporate I haven't been to a home match in around 5 years. I used to have a season ticket and then when I moved away from the area I used to go to the weekend games. Only do away games now.

I realise that my circumstances are not the norm, but if I moved back I wouldn't get a ST.

How can it be the way forward? What other business openly market the fact they are charging new customers significantly more than existing customers for the same product?

I really don't understand the club's logic with these early bird new applicant prices. I say it every year but it's almost as if they don't want new Season ticket holders. Just charge the same as someone renewing! There will be a lot of people considering season tickets who see that and just think no I'll not bother.
Attending the football is habit forming, once that habit is broken it is hard to win the fan back as they quickly find other things to spend their money on a Saturday afternoon. Boro's business model is all centred around preventing fans from breaking the habit.

Make it very expensive for a match by match purchase to put people off giving up a ST to pick and choose their games and make the ST prices after the early bird renewal period steeply increase so existing ST holders don't want to risk not renewing early and getting landed with the high charges. Essentially it's ramping the pressure up, and making the option of not renewing as unattractive as possible. Other tactics such as making you buy before the end of the current season and also having a short early bird renewal window are also designed to ramp up the pressure further.

I can't remember exactly when this marketing model came in, but I'm sure it was after the Strachan era when walk ups and ST prices were closer together and crowds dropped as many fans gave up STs and decided to go match to match, and then ultimately not at all if we were doing poorly in the league.

Most of the lads I used to go with gave up their STs in this period and have never bought a ST since. The club are clearly trying to avoid being in a situation like before where crowds were low and are doing everything it can to keep them high. You have to say so far it's really worked for them, so they aren't going to change strategy. Same for dropping the match offer/deals, these make having a ST less attractive so they were stopped and I can't see them ever coming back either.

Many of us may not like the business model the club have adopted but it seems to work for them so I can't see them changing it despite people complaining. They want the certainty of a decent sized crowd and they do that by doing all it can to encourage existing ST holders to renew and making not having a ST as unattractive as possible.

Where you seeing that?

So it was £5 less than Hartlepool's was?

"Adult season cards are priced from £335, with Under-16s able to secure their seat from £40 – just £14.57 for adults per game and £1.74 for juniors!

Over-65s can also back the Lads throughout the duration of the season from £235, with Under-18 and Under-22 season card prices starting from £85 and £145."

Fair enough. I've no idea how Hartlepool sell any season tickets at all then! They must have some very loyal fans (as we do) who are happy to be charged over the odds.

The club will charge us the most they think we will pay, that is simply indisputable. We have the collective power to change that pricing but of course most people when it comes down to it can't be bothered (like me) and are happy to just hand over the money for an easy life.

Jesus, no wonder they average such high attendances. And to think they have the cheek to mock our support.

The club don’t waste any time capitalising on a purple patch of form for the team. I remember when they boosted Sunday dinner prices and slashed the discount Mid-May of 2014/15 season when they thought we were destined to become a PL team.

Fair enough to the dedicated lot enjoying the teams current success, you deserve this current feel good factor. I personally cannot justify the prices anymore. It’s often parroted on here that money has gone mad in the game, but whilst people continue to pay it nothing will change.

Lots of other football clubs do it.
It doesn’t make it right

Who on earth will pay £550 to watch possible championship football?

The club is on a massive high at the moment, take advantage with reasonable new season ticket prices provided people commit before the end of March. It’s still likely we will be a championship side next season but could have had a huge number of season ticket holders if they were reasonably priced

I'd imagine they'll be in for an imminent rise now they are established back in second tier and are PL hopefuls too (though not as much as us) but yeah it surely won't be anywhere near £480.
