Everton - 12 point deduction?

For no reason I can recall - Everton are my most disliked team. I don't know why. It must be some reason if we go back into the dark mists of time but I can't remember it. I just don't like Everton. So if they get points deducted and ultimately relegated then I, for one, would not shed a tear.

I think the fact they’ve been in the top flight for 80 years or something means people are bored of them. They’ve mostly been as they are now for a long, long time, but for a purple patch lasting 4 years in the 80s they’ve just been around upper mid-table on average.

People are just bored of them. Might be different if they were challenging the big boys for the title or playing great football.

I would disagree that people are bored with them, people just don't buy into them being a big club. Everton are the Sunderland of the North West and think they are better than what they think.

I don't like them or hate them
If they've broke the rules they should get a points deduction - if they haven't they shouldn't
I will call them out for being dreadful though. SheffU's only point was against them and Luton's only win - so Everton are not better than them
If they don't improve they'll be in the relegation mix with those 2 Burnley and Bournemouth
Burnley won’t go down. They have played some top teams at home. When they play the Luton’s, Sheffield Utd, Evertons, Notts Forests at home they will pick up enough points.

I cant see this happening. I can already hear the prem and FA excuses "one of the founding father of the league, and surely the fans cant be affected unfairly."

We were a founding father of the premier league too , didn’t stop then punishing us .

When I worked in London , to be fair the Everton fans I met there (school I worked at had lots of them for some reason ) were really nice . But there is a feeling at that club they believe they are too big to go down . I hope they do soon . Stinking our the premiership

Have an Evertonian mate who definitely doesn't think they are too big to go down. Always pragmatic, thinks 16-17th this season simply because there are 3/4 worse teams.

He hopes........😁😁

We were a founding member. The founding fathers were Liverpool, United, Arsenal, Spurs and Everton.

Funnily enough, 5 of the only 6 teams to have never dropped out of it.

The points deduction is long overdue. A cynic might say the Premier League turned a blind eye while Everton were wealthy, and only want to get them out of the league now they are broke.

If they go down with no money in the bank, no new owner (or worse, taken over by shysters like 777), Goodison Park falling down and Bramley Moore an unfinished shell, then there's really no limit to how low they could drop.

Everton are a big club. To not be relegated all this time takes some doing! They have been perilously close the past couple of seasons. Whether a 12 point deduction makes the difference, only time will tell. Luckily for them, they have Sheff Utd, Burnley, Luton and Bournemouth for company.
Spot on , if they have to take it , this yrs the year

That's Manchester United, by the way.
Oh don’t be so chippy Capy.

For a start, I live here so United and City mean two clubs only. No one says “Man U” by the way.

For seconds, all the other “Uniteds” are from towns with only one football club, with the single exception of Sheffield. Who I’m pretty sure no one would have thought were a founding father of the PL from my post.

Those clubs are usually referred to be their town’s name eg Rotherham. No one calls Manchester United “Manchester” except some Americans and even then it’s becoming less common since the rise of City (yes, Manchester City).

Calling them United also winds up Newcastle, Leeds and West Ham fans. What’s not to like?

I wind the Geordies I know up by asking them who the toon are, they have no sense of humour in my experience.

If they've broke the rules they should get a points deduction -
“The league’s profitability and sustainability rules allow clubs to lose a maximum of £105m over a three‑year period or face sanctions. Everton had recorded losses of £371.8m over the previous three years and annual losses for five consecutive years – more than £430m in total over the period.”

Even allowing for COVID, they’re way over. No-one’s telling me that they missed out on £270m gate receipts during the pandemic.

I don’t understand (well, I do understand) why it isn’t a simple technical punishment like La Liga with their salary rules - if you’re one Euro over, even if you’re Barcelona, instant transfer ban / points deduction and you can’t register new players until you fix it. Appeal it afterwards. Otherwise it’s not a rule, it’s a suggestion.

None of this “discussing” your own punishment, appeals beforehand, suspended points deductions etc. Give it teeth and apply as soon as the club’s accounts come back. Make everyone’s accounts transparent, no grace and favour even if the club has a lovely old heritage or the owners happen to be the main oil supplier to the UK Gov. It’s not unlike how someone on £30k a year on PAYE will just get a bill through the post if their tax is wrong and then bailiffs, but Amazon can “agree to” their own settlement.

In this case I reckon they’ll get a fine and suspended deduction, just my inkling.

Yeah, and that’s why punishment needs to happen immediately. Skews the competitive balance of the sport.

If the investigations into City eventually get them and they get stripped of 10 years of trophies, that changes nothing for the fans - they’ve still got the memories of winning leagues and European cups galore, and they won them on the pitch, even if it was unfair. What about Liverpool & Arsenal fans, will they be having open top bus tours for retrospective titles with an asterix attached like everyone who rode the Tour de France during Lance Armstrong’s era?

If club’s accounts and funding sources are too opaque for regulators to understand, then it’s on the regulators to fix that. Again shouldn’t be rocket science. But there’s obviously no will to do it.

It is all quite similar to the tax system - I actually don’t blame or hate multinationals for trying to reduce their tax bill as much as possible, I’d do the same in their shoes. Morally I think they everyone should pay fair tax, and it’s 100% on the people who write the tax laws if the laws can be circumvented. I retain all my anger for them.
