FA Cup Draw

We are ball 25 in Monday's draw which is live on the BBC.

I use to always look forward to the FA Cup draw when I was at school (some years back now). We would have an old transistor radio with all the lads gathered round it. The draw always took place just after the lunchtime bell went to call us all back into class. Like rebels, we would remain at the back of the school waiting in anticipation to see who we would get and hope to see some of the star players. The teacher would give us a roasting on entering the class and then ask 'who did we get.'

For me, the saturation of football on the tele killed the magic of the FA Cup.

My memories like yours! Now? Just another event , great shame, had some great times following the Boro in the Cup over the years

Same here.

Was one of the highlights of the season, dreaming of a cup run. Is it just me or do we manage to get more draws with non league teams than other clubs? Sure there was Grantham (possibly Wycombe as well) and others just before my time, but off the top of my head;

Bishops Stortford
Sutton
Hednesford
Barrow
Kettering

Sure there’ll be others as well.

Wimbledon

Easiest tie possible for me.

I'm fine drawing hard PL opposition as soon as possible though.
That way we're either we're beaten without shame or get a big boost of confidence from a win.

Spurs,,, total no win, loose or draw match. We are never going to win the cup so lets give Spurs a kicking. Don't want to get beat off Newport County or Burton Albion.

I remember Grantham 1974. Coincided with my return to Uni in London.
Went down without tickets en route to London, hoping to buy on day.
Meta a couple of Boro party in local pub who gave us two tickets.
Fantastic ground. One stand where we had tickets and the rest was just a rope around the pitch.

Surely we want a completely nondescript tie against a championship side who we have no connection to?
If we draw a non-league team that we haven't played before then the ground completists will miss out on the chance to see us there, if we draw a big team then it'll not be the same without fans.
Home to Watford should be just about bland enough for these unusual times.

The magic of the fa cup was like non other growing up
Now: nothing but a big distraction from our league and promotion quest
Sad really
Agree with Conquest that a saturated football on TV is the cause along with incredible money involved to stay or get into the premiership that clubs place it secondary to their main needs.
The tv companies try to keep it alive but it’s lost the magic for me.
Listening to the draw on the radio brings back exciting memories!!

I was reading an article on Arsene Wenger on how he looked forward to watching the FA Cup as a boy. He said they didn't have a tele at home and he would pay to watch it at his local school.

The FA Cup was watched by millions around the world and was the showpiece cup final that other countries tried to copy. I could name goal scorers and the winning teams right up from the 60's to the turn of the century. Now I don't know who was in the final the last couple of years.
