Gentry Day, again, sorry.

It's a charming tradition for them and I don't think we should try and appropriate/copy it or make up our own version, there's no need to force something like this as part of a club's identity when it hasn't developed organically.

But it grown organically, lots of fans have come here in the past doing their own things Man City( AP) bananas, Banik Ostrava balloons, etc and we have see it has their thing. But it has been noticeable on this forum recently of people asking for a minutes applause and remberances, so there is a real need for something, maybe as Preston have done a 1 day trip outand with what ?, I'm not sure, I haven't seen footage of their fans but they seemed to keep it really simple and I believe that is the best way.
Maybe as Millwall did a flag day, but with the person's name on and/or a picture.

I think it’s a great idea. Always a shame to lose a loved one but I wouldn’t want and expect it for me. I would much rather be remembered at a celebration day. Alex Ferguson, one of the greatest managers ever, has gone on record saying we changed the face of football when we spent money. I agree with the Brazilian connections being celebrated, bit of colour, but of music and great memories.

It could be amazing. A sea of yellow and green, Brazil flags, Juninho shirts, Emerson wigs, Brazilian carnival ladies...ok I'm getting carried away now.😂

I wouldn’t say nicking the bowler hat thing.. but doing something else would be cool.

I like the idea of samba Saturday, dress code: carnival!

Good excuse to get tanked up in Brazil shirt!
Get dsone drums going WELL EYE!!

True - but from what I can see (accepting I only get to a couple of matches a season, but from posts on here and articles in the rag that was once the Gazette) the number of "please have a clap on x minute for my mate / brother / dad because he was a big Boro fan" requests is increasing - the vast majority of the crowd wouldn't have known the person from Adam so why clap ?

Surely one day of the season, at the Riverside, where all those who have died are remembered is a great idea - doesn't have to be an MFC "thing"

PS - "died" by the way, not "passed"

I'd never heard of it before, until yesterday, but it did seem a bit bizarre to do at an away ground. Why not a designated home match? Secondly 'gentry' and bowler hats...what was that all about? It's not just old men who follow their club which pass away.

It's because a former manager said about Preston fans "they're the very best, they're the gentry."

As we have no more Saturday home games left and the Burnley being on a Good Friday the crowd should be brimming. Unless it's the Cov game!!!

You only have to do a quick Google to see how many times our fans are asked to clap each season for someone who has died. The passing of anyone is a sad occasion but why do people feel the need to project their grief onto others?

This article was written in 2017 and claps for the loss of fellow fans have increased since then.

The first clapping for a fan that I remember was for the guy called BamBam as he was a well known character… (Ali Brownlee also got a moving tribute..)

it’s now an awkward event that I understand means somthing to the family and freinds but some are more adhered to than others and the stories behind the reason are becoming more ’poignant’ to get others to buy into the clapping…

last week there were 2 requests in one game for 2 people one on 42 and one on 65, I remember the clapping on 42 mins but not the other…

I think the fan groups and the club need to publicise one match, and I’d say the one closest to Ali Brownlees anniversary of passing, or birthday as a moment where all fans are remembered…. May be with a montage of photos of loved ones on the ’big screen’ and a memorial at the ayresome gate at a set time with a floral tribute…
