First choice would be Steffen back - but I have no idea if that is feasiblewill we go with what we have in roberts brynn etc or look to buy or loan for me would like brynn roberts to fight it out for number 1 slot what you all think utb
No one is a comfortable with the ball as Steffen!First choice would be Steffen back - but I have no idea if that is feasible
Sol Brynn sounds like he has been top drawer for Swindon - but I have no idea in all honesty the type of keeper he is. I.e. is he comfortable with the ball at his feet like Steffen?
So i would love to give him a chance but does he come back to be no.2/ cup keeper if we can get Steffen back.
I think you are right - and that could be major issue this summer for us!No one is a comfortable with the ball as Steffen!
While that's true it's like saying there's more to playing midfield than having a good first touch and weight of pass.I understand our style, the way Carrick wants his keepers to be etc, but there is more to goalkeeping than passing a ball 5-20 yards to a teammate while drawing the press in.
And rightly so, if we want to commit to a style, the 11 (and subs) need to be fully invested and be able to execute it, otherwise the style/ way of playing simply wont work. While that's true it's like saying there's more to playing midfield than having a good first touch and weight of pass.
You can of course be a successful midfielder with an unreal engine, pace and top class ball winning ability. But if you can't play well in tight spaces it doesn't matter, you won't get into a Carrick side.
Just as a keeper who's an incredible shot stopper won't get in if they aren't any good with their feet.
....and ideally a free agentHopefully a keeper able to help in organising the defence, dominate the area when required and catch the ball, as well as having the ability to pass the ball out, which is becoming such a common trait in the game.
......and happy to take the gloves and #1 shirt for £10k week.....and ideally a free agent
Exactly this. While that's true it's like saying there's more to playing midfield than having a good first touch and weight of pass.

Interesting disection of my comment. That comment was made because people keep harping on threads about Steffens ability to pass to teammates as if its something rare, vital and like other keepers can’t do it, I have no doubt enough others will be calm, composed and capable and have the ability to pick a pass too, with practice comes experience comes accuracy etc. While that's true it's like saying there's more to playing midfield than having a good first touch and weight of pass.

Steffen has undoubtedly improved from the raw keeper i witnessed earlier in the season, he is now occasionally collecting balls rather than punching, i suspect it is due to regular coaching, his positioning has improved, his shot stopping has improved and some of that will be down to regular game time, some down to coaching etc. However, he is not the finished article, there are ricks still there, but they are in anyone, the frequency is reducing. I certainly wouldn’t say he is commanding. He still has me jittery on corners and set pieces more than anything.
If Carrick wants him back, thats fine, if the finances stack up, who knows he wouldn’t be my first choice, but neither would he be my last. I doubt he will ever play for City again as he is not good enough at that level as of yet Imho.
He is 28 so I suspect he will want 1st team football, City would want a decent enough fee and his wages may be out of our range anyway. I just thought Henderson may be a realistic option for a decent keeper given his current situation.

Of course it's worth it for a keeper. The best manager I've known bought Shilton for that reason.Steffen cost City £6m.....would they want this back? Would they be happy to get him off the books for £3-4m?
I think his reported £80k week wages may not be true, unless it's massively bonus related. Looking online it has him at £2.4m year - iro £46k week. If he dropped this to £25k he will be our second top earner behind Chuba......is it worth it for a keeper?
Whatever, hope some kind of deal can be thrashed out ......even another 12 months loan.
Lawrie McMenemy?Of course it's worth it for a keeper. The best manager I've known bought Shilton for that reason.
