14k is pretty mad. Yet no fee so that's factored into it. A free agent can command more for that reason.

I imagine we are paying a good chunk of Payeros wage on loan. Also Uche and Akpom if they go out (I can't see anyone buying them).

It's pretty clear many champo clubs can't match what we pay. Didn't Rotherham say something similar when asked about signing Wing on a perm? They said they couldn't match what we paid him. Thats Lewis bloody Wing 😂

We got him on a free, so nothing out of the ordinary. Probably an average Championship salary. Bausor and Gibson signed the deal off, so can't be anything ridiculous 🤷🏻‍♂️🤷🏻‍♂️
Oh I get its an average championship wage for a bosman, its the fact its for a below average injury prone player that is the scandal. I'd also hazard a guess lenihan will be on something similar and he's twice the player!

Boca are paying all of Payeros wages, Akpom will likely have to be subsidised by the club, Uche isn’t on much so will be fine

We pay about the going Championship wages nowadays (£14k/week is about average for a defender) - Birmingham paid Friend more than we offered him, the same for Ayala at Blackburn. We did pay more when we had parachute payments and we can't compete financially with those clubs now.

Rotherham will have to pay £8k to £10k/week to their first 11. Otherwise they just would walk away at the end of their contract.

Boca Juniors are the equivalent of Celtic they get crowds of over 40k in a 54k stadium - they will pay around English Championship wages. Thye had 3 players at the 2018 World Cup.

Cardiff would have paid Ikpeazu's wages the same for Akpom in Greece. The top Greek clubs are well supported. He left Arsenal to go there. POAK won the Greek League and Cup in 2019 they are the top 3 of Greek clubs.

Ayala actually ended up on less, he thought leeds were going to offer him a contract and they didn’t, we withdrew our offer after he refused to play, the terms he ended up with at blackburn were less than what we’d offered but it served him right for being a douche.

According to that site (it's not up-to date btw) Ayala is Blackburn's joint top paid player at 17000.

We signed Ayala on 12k/week but he had significant pay rises and ended up on 25-27k/week. He was the 3rd highest earner after Britt and Fletcher.

We offered him a 1 year extension on a slight pay cut (maybe dropping to 20k/week), but after rumours of Leeds offering him 25k/week he stalled.

I think we gave him some kind of ultimatum ("sign now or don't sign at all"), and he chose to wait.... We withdrew our offer and he ended up at Blackburn for 17k/week.

I think he is one of our higher paid players, simply because he was on a free and an experienced champo player. After McNair and Howson, I don't think any of our current permanent players will be on more.

Good luck to the guy, he's a steady player, but a bit injury prone and I've seen milk turn quicker.

They didn't they matched but offered a 2 year deal.

He also had two offers to go to Italy, which he was tempted by but in the end he didn't want to uproot his family to another country during a pandemic which might cut them off at times from his wider family.

Chuba Akpom is on £27k* a week at the Boro, Warnock's number 1 target

“I’d known Akpom from playing in the UK and he’d had a good couple of years in Greece,” said Warnock.

“We tried to get him and this went on for about five or six weeks, Neil (Bausor) spoke to about 15 different agents that are involved with him.”

“After a couple of weeks, I said I need to speak to the player. I got his number and spoke with him, and as soon as I spoke to him, I thought you will do for me. I said to him, you will come and enjoy it here, speaking the language, a manager like me to play for, you can’t fail.”

“We had a good chat. He was playing in the Champions League and he kept scoring and they kept winning, I was surprised when we got him.”

£27k* a week on Akpom a player whose best scoring season was 10 goals in all competitions in Greece and in 107 English League appearances has scored 8 goals or 1 goal in every 13 appearances, £7m minimum in fees and wages, in terns of signings he must be right up there with some of our very worst especially given the financial position we were in when we signed him.

*This might actually be Euros but I couldn't find the Euro key on my computer, think it's down to Brexit, must have been one of the benefits promised, no € keys on GB keyboards, NI excepted, and it would roughly tally with £25k a week mentioned by others.

Is he actually on that much? No way. Surely not.

Unfortunately yeah he is, I've read different claims ranging from £17.5k/week to £25k/week, so I assume it's somewhere in the middle.

There was interest in him last summer from teams in France and Turkey, but none of the teams could meet his wage demands.

That is **** poor. What a shambles

That’s the real reason he’s back then . Gibson won’t of been happy paying someone massive amounts of money for doing nothing and he’s right too. Hopefully he leaves but I doubt it

Another loan to PAOK probably - I believe they were paying most of his wages, and he did alright for them.
