Huddersfield v Luton tonight.

Just got to hope other play-off chasers get surprise defeats like we did against Hull.

We've had many opportunities already this season to take advantage, and then we slip up against the likes of Barnsley and Bristol City.

and we had / have a 4 game run playing 1st, 2nd, 3rd and 20th and lost to st and 20th - my confidence has dropped a lot

They both have 3 'easy' wins in there which does not bode well

We had an "easy" win pencilled in on Saturday, and we came unstuck, so we've got to cross our fingers that they also mess up along the way.
It's probably going to happen to one of the sides, it's just whether we can take advantage. We usually don't.

yes you never know, nerves may get to some teams and make slip ups, all we can do is hope and get max points we can

If we had a striker that we could rely on. My opinion of how we could finish would be totally different, We have several strikers that are not strikers and that has been our problem for ages. We need other result to get us into the playoffs

Huddersfield play QPR next, then Boro.
Sheff Utd play Reading and at Bristol City.
Blackburn play at Peterborough and Stoke.
Boro play at Bournemouth and Huddersfield.
I said a couple of weeks ago, that if we are within 3 points of any of those sides with 4 to play, I'd fancy our chances, and in fact I expected us to be 3 points behind them

The 2 midfield injuries for Luton with another 2 games in the next week is really tough luck for them

If we are to get in playoffs we need to beat Bournemouth, Huddersfield, Swansea, Cardiff, Stoke and Preston. Or, maybe… lose two of them!

Not a troll, I see it as it is. We have not got a goal scorer in the squad. We have a Keeper that need to go to specsavers. You may have pink tinted specs on. I do not
Did you see it "as it" was when Chris Wilder arrived on November 8th 2021?
How does "as it is" now, compare with 6 months ago?

You clearly have good insight - could you just elaborate for us:

* "We have not got a goal-scorer in the squad" - who has scored our 52 goals this season? [Penalties ?]
* What do you consider the key factors which have kept us in and around the play-off places since Chris Wilder and his Management Team arrived?
* With your frank and considered opinion, without rose-tinted goggles - how do you see it "as it is" at the moment?
* What do you recommend would help us to understand the Boro in the way that you do? ["I see it as it is"]?
* Many thanks for your time.

as been as good as we are at times we have consistently not been able to break into the top 6 and stay there ,even though weve been there abouts all the time, which tells me we are not quite good enough,i expect a much better season next time round with wilder and whoever we sign in the summer

When you look at the likes of Peltier and Bamba - both in mid+ 30`s, Lumley who was a free transfer and some of the others around the squad - there is still work to be done to finish mopping up the mess left by the previous regime. We have no natural cover for Jones and a weak left side. Seliki isnt up to the mark and Sporar isnt a consistent scorer. Big clear out come June.

Lets get behind the lads for the last 6 games.

If someone had offered us this ending to the season after the draw at West Brom, we`de have snatched their hands off.

That's one spot in the playoffs now out of our reach. 3 still to play for but without Jones we are looking totally impotent.

Pains me to see what Coventry did to Fulham when we only started to play after they went ahead. I fancy them to go on and nab that last playoff spot now. Far better footballing side than Boro.

Paying the price for not signing a keeper or capable forward to lead the line in Jan window. Having 3 forwards on loan has worked out as well as I thought it might.

Back to the drawing board for Wilder but he has got a platform to build from. Keeper, LM and 2 forwards please as a starting point.

Booked myself a holiday to avoid play off final. If Wilder somehow manages to steer us there, I'd fancy Lumley to throw one into the back of his own net inside 5 mins.

Significantly more optimistic for next season than I am for what's left of this.

We're Boro mate. It's what we do. Normal teams win their easy games!! :cautious:

If we do miss out, it will be the second year in a row where loan signings in January have had a negative effect on the club. Even under Warnock, we were only 3 points off the playoffs come the turn of the year and ended up being 10 points off ,with the loan signings not having much impact. Lesson: dont get january loans, they almost always turn out to be crap

How have the loans had a negative effect?

I think the issue of that the clubs towards the top of the table have just performed better

Huddersfield hadn't been beaten unril recently since they lost to us, Forest obvious are massively improved, Luton have been on a great run, as have a few others.

I'd be interested to see how many PPG we've picked up since January, but I think we've more options now with the new players, all of whom have contributed.

Beyond our reach but Coventry will get there? We're 3 points ahead of them with a game in hand. I don't think we'll quite manage it, but there is no chance for Coventry.

Enjoyed the game last night, decent championship fayre.

If we can't finish above Luton we don't deserve to go up, it's like back to the 80s with Graham Taylor. Granted it works but I'm incredibly surprised that more teams can't deal with them in this league.

I actually thought Huddersfield looked good, some nice technical players and a clear game plan (their wide players are excellent). That said, they do lack some cutting edge - think there might be only the odd goal in it next Monday.

That's the table over the last 15 matches, which takes us back to the 29th of December, so there's one pre-January result in there.

In 11th, 4 points off the top 6.

But just blaming it on January signing is incredibly simplistic.

One of our worst performances of this calender year was Barnsley away, an awful first half, and neither January striker even started.
We were 2-0 down before either came on the pitch.
