I hope we NEVER agree to business with Spurs again

I think Spence has a good agent who keeps him in the newspapers. Bayern arsenal etc etc may well have kept tabs on him, but I'm sure they're keeping tabs on players all around the world. If it wasn't for spurs we'd probably have to settle for less from forest.

Or more likely HE"D have to settle for less, hence his desire to go to Spurs ?

Can’t exactly blame them, they are in the far stronger position so aren’t exactly going to just pay the money we want

I disagree, they are supposed to be - a big club - challenging for big competitions... & yet year after year they fall away, due to lack of quality... without Son & Kane they are mid-table... they really need to be backing Conte, £15m is a bargain for the quality of performance Spence has shown last season.

I do often wonder if they are more about making money from their stadium - are the loans taken out to build it - impacting their transfer business, now interest rates are rising? They talk a big game, yet fail season after season... time, again, to back their manager & Conte is a good one.

I think Spence has agreed terms with Spurs? If that's true surely we have them permission to speak to the player? And if so, why wasn't fee agreed first?

We wil not want to loan him out as his value may drop because of shrinking contract length.

I am confident a deal will be done if not with Spurs it will be another high level club.

How do you work that out? There were another 4-5 clubs interested. Should have put us in a stronger position - pay up or we move on.
Has another club made a bid yet? Certainly nothing reported.
We’re desperate for the funds to sign our targets so they will be expecting the price to drop the longer it drags on. They can wait until deadline day, we can’t

Every club has to do smart business regardless of stature, if we were the same with transfers our fans would be applauding it

If any of the three parties were leaking things to the media in order to try to get this resolved quickly, that's the time to be concerned. As it is all seems cordial.
You have to remember Boro and Spurs may be working on 6-8 deals each, talking to multiple clubs and agents. So not getting done NOW is frustrating but it will get sorted I'm sure.

Why is it Spurs causing the problems? Could it not be at our end? Or possibly the player? Spurs seem to be getting a lot of deals done quite trouble free.

Certainly if the Spence saga is to be replicated. Levy is living up to his name. Difficult, awkward, stalling tactics. Frankly I would be happy if we walked away from it. Other clubs who showed interest would have been better/ easier to work with.

They have around 24 hours to tie up a deal if Conte wants him on the plane with the rest of the squad - this will prove to be the lever to buy or bust.
Nosmo if yoo've ever been involved with signing players you would know that rarely are they straightforward and compromise must be be reached from both sides...📖✍️

It's just business. They want the best deal they can get.

The longer it goes on, they'll assume the more eager we'll be to buy a striker - and the more willing we'll be to lower our asking price, freeing up cash for that striker. Any club would do this, if they think they're the player's first choice.

If someone else comes in for him however, then the dynamic changes completely. We're probably waiting for that to happen.

How many players have Spurs already signed??!! You are a dip at times! This transfer seems to be one that has gone on the longest. We should have taken a harder stance over this transfer. The supposed asking price of £15 million has been mooted for quite a while. Really not complicated pay up. Granted the waters have been muddied by Spence saying Spurs is his preferred option. However staying with us or being able to go to Brentford, Arsenal, Forest or Dortmund and I have a pretty good idea what his answer would be

I think we probably need to give Gibbo a bit of credit here.

Spence has clearly chosen Spurs as his preferred destination and Spurs seem to be using this to negotiate.

It seems to me Gibbo is sat happily back waiting for them to dole up what he wants and thats why we are waiting.

If they dont pay up then Spence will have to decide where else he wants to play and he will be offered around.

Well played Gibbo. PS CW has already referred to this stance in his 'we wont be bullied' chat
