I think it's down to a) people drink drive a lot more, b) people mess about on their phones while driving a lot more, c) the standard of test is really, really low, near impossible to fail in most states, d) extreme weather conditions, e) huge road infrastructure means that although they have great interstates, some states have a lot of poorly maintained country roads.Surely a lot of deaths in the USA are down to automatic cars, heavy on the brake in winter weather must be a deciding factor. I followed a swaying driver in the States and hoped he would not brake, but he did and lost his canoes and bent the axle on the trailer, no injuries but a dented ego. Your mind says brake but it's not the best thing to do. Lost a mate in a Military convoy for the same reason.
