Is Ingleby Barwick a 'town'?

I've lived in Ingleby for the last 10 years, never really thought about if its own town or not. As a place it's fine, very quiet where I live.

I go out walk my dog at night and see the "gangs" of kids, all they are are just kids hanging out not really causing many problems. I've never had any issues with them, they've always been fine and asked to approach my dog to stroke him,

Is it a bit soulless, yes, it's a lot better now than it was 7 or 8 years ago, with the new restaurants, pubs, shops etc

Of course there are going to be kids hanging about outside.

Have you seen the tiny size of most of the toy town houses? There'd be no room for them to hang about indoors. 😉

They pretend its a Town because of the pretentious, skull-numbing Councillors that operate out of there.

Did you have to collapse the flat pack housing before you left? 👀
You know what mate if I didn't know you as the kind-hearted, considerate, engaging and thoroughly nice chap you so obviously are I might be mistaken for thinking that you're just trying to get a rise out of me. You're not though are you

🤣 it’s all just good humour LOTL, as a former resident of Ingleby Barwick I know what it’s like.

We live in Ingleby and the comments about it always make me laugh. It isn't perfect, but our house has gone up 100k in value in 6 years, our neighbours and street are class, I've got access to cycle routes into the countryside within 5 minutes, easy running routes and we've got a walk along the leven 5 minutes from our front door. The restaurant and takeaways are decent and the part we live in avoids all the traffic. My girlfriend, and several of my mates, all had the same "gazette" attitude to Ingleby. Most of them live here now and my girlfriend loves it.

We've got a south facing garden, plenty of space and not had any crime.

The soulless thing is an odd one. I grew up in hemlington then Nunthorpe then Middlesbrough then Stockton and I'd say none of those are soulful places to live?

I'd say it's a town, it has an obvious centre and is marked towards it on road markings

The postcode thing is b*llocks because tons of places in teesside and nationwide despite being distinct areas.

Does it honestly have an obvious centre? As I say I've not spent any time there for at least 20 years so I am well aware things will have moved on, but where is the centre?

It's in the centre, literally, with a parade of shops, pub, library, 2 gyms, a supermarket and an area where they hold events (market, fun day etc) It has a town council with its own budget and its own ward councillors, Thornaby has its own of both.

Within Ingleby each area has its own name and usually its own set of shops etc, then that is right at the centre
