Isaiah Jones

His defensive side is still very good for a winger / wing-back.
Its his attacking side that has become erratic. I would not back him in a 1 on 1. And he is less likely to beat a man than a couple of seasons ago and his crossing is iffy but always has been.
Last time we played Chelsea they targetted him with two players. I doubt they will do that in these games.

I don't think people are (generally) being deliberately racist with Jones but he often gets called lazy (quite clearly isn't) and 'lacking a footballing brain' (he doesn't suggest to me he does, in fact his tactical awareness seems pretty spot on) - and laziness and stupidity are slurs that have been aimed at black players for a long time.
In commentary Dion dublin used the term lazy against jones 3 or 4 times in the first half. I thought it was a bit off really jones just lacked quality in those moments nothing to do with work rate. Dublin was also quite patronising with the way he spoke about coburn playing up top on his own at times as well probably a case of hes never seen him play because he doesn't look outside of the premier league but he was quite dismissive of him.

Its a valid question from a long-time Boro fan.
Its not a statement he made.
There is a difference.
Think about it.
But then how you do you explaine the barlasser and esp fry criticism isn’t it just moaners going to Moan.

McNair is another who gets dogs abuse as well.

To shove a dollop of contention on to the plate:
I know a chap very well, who has been a season cardholder for decades and follows the club everywhere.
He's definitely to the "right" in his politics [I respect him for bewing honest], but he made an interesting comment last week:
Basically, he said, "I think some fans deliberately have a go at Jones because he's black".
I was a little surprised, because it's not the sort of assertion I expected.
He may well have a point?
And maybe the same could be said for Rogers?
My mate could be completely wrong, but given the pathetic racist boos which ring out every time opposing players take-the-knee and some of the racist comments made during games - from a few "fans" in the South Stand, racism against Jones and comments like those of the OP, could have some validity?
Never heard the same or similar said of Coburn?
Unfortunately that is something I have not posted on here but long suspected and when I mention ‘agenda’ against certain types of players it is amazing how vociferous some of the protests are.

I got the opposite view of him about Coburn really. Could see how it could maybe come off as patronising but I felt like it was more just enthusiasm and him genuinely wanting to see Coburn do well. I felt like he was pretty positive about us most of the evening tbh.

The racism claims are ridiculous!

But so is the original post. In terms of forward play he’s hit and miss and very much a confidence player but defensively he’s superb and last night really shone a light on that, Villa fans have been raving about him ‘pocketing Ramsey’.

If Forss was fit I think we’d see him have an extended run at right back. He’s played there several times in the last 15 minutes no and done well. Sadly injuries means we’ve been unable to really give him a proper go there but long term I think that’s where he could end up.

Someone levelled this at me a few years ago well they implied it when I said I didn’t rate britt that he was dialling it in and we needed better ad he was basically a flat track bully that flattered to deceive.

Btw I stand by that.

So using racism to dismiss criticism is a dangerous step to go down.

I would also add if not stated that Jones has not had the pedigree of top coaching his whole career as he come to us from non league so interms of development is actually behind a lot of players from a tactical stand point

He's an inconsistent player with bags of flair. How many good players could you apply that description to over the years? "Loads" is the answer and you can't expect that type of player to turn it on week in and week out. As said elsewhere, you notice when he's not in the team so that to me says we don't have anyone like him.

Jones big problem is that we dont really have another player on the other flank to do what he does so we are forced to over rely on him. With more balance he wouldn’t be so drained and we’d be less reliant on him.

This is definitely the case. How many white players have been called out for ‘lacking a football brain’?
