Jeff Bezos resigns as Amazon CEO

Bit sure I agree with that. AWS power a lot of stuff, I have done training through it. And streaming services are important these days so Prime is as significant as Netflix on its own
Your view will be different simply because I’m a lot older than you and remember the world before the computer took over. It worked very well.
And whilst IT has made things easier and streamlined in some areas I don’t think all the change has been either good or for the better.
My main point here though is that he has taken too much out - doesn’t he have a poor record on tax?

Yes I’m a bit old fashioned in that I think primary and secondary industries create the real wealth.

I was aware Amazon dabbled in all this IT infrastructure stuff but I think the importance of that is a bit overblown in society generally.

But if you are happy with the ridiculous amount he has extracted out of the system from starting as an online book shop then you will just have to live with that.

You really don't understand, nor want to understand, do you?

What do you think is powering this messageboard, what do you think powers the databases that contain your medical details, what do you think is doing the modelling to shape the governments response to the COVID pandemic, what do you think powers the Tv stations you watch etc etc.

I can guarantee that if the major cloud providers just switched off their servers tomorrow then you would notice a huge difference to society.

It would be more catastrophic than the pandemic for the economy

Really? Deluded 😉

Look if you are in IT I do respect what you do, I really do, but just educate yourself on wealth creation. IT will only ever be a tertiary service part of the real business.

That's the modern world though. It is computerised and AWS and their analytics does help streamline that.

Depends on your angle whether he has a poor record on tax. Amazon have managed their tax payments to maximise profits and improve the share price. In that regard he has a good record on tax!

I'm not in IT, but you really don't understand what "real business" is anymore and it seems don't want to understand the importance "IT" plays in the modern world.

You appear to have a viewpoint that probably hasn't changed since the early 80's and are rigidly sticking to it - that's fine, you're a luddite, you'd have probably been smashing up sewing machines back in the 19th century.

Fancies trying his hand at Football management. Is going to buy Bournemouth by all accounts. ITK

I'm well aware of the "different types of industries". Perhaps you could point out which of those industries don't depend on a solid IT infrastructure to continue to run, whether that be for safety, efficiency or distribution.

As a 65 yr old whose business this week was able to land a contract in Brasil linking a "vendor" in the UK with the customer there, none of which would have been possible without AWS cloud systems in the UK and Brasil, can I defend the understanding/appreciation of the tech involved by (some of) we oldies 😐

As the product is purely digital, none of this would have been possible without AWS (other cloud services are available).

The distribution of electricity is dependant upon the internet. It’s a generational thing so I don’t expect you to get it. It’s like when I try to explain crypto currency to my dad
But the point is that the electricity comes before the computer system, that’s why IT is tertiary - you may be young but you are hard work son.
