Linesman elbows Robertson

Coming from Keane, he was one of the worst abusers of officials when he was playing, none stop in their faces and chasing referee's around the pitch, pity he didn't take his own advice.
Can’t disagree with that.. I was at the game at Old Trafford when he and others chased Andy D’Urso around the pitch screaming in his face.

It shows that after all those years we still haven’t sorted out players having respect for officials

Yet we still have people defending Robertson , they now are bending their bodies into officials....so as not to touch them , but the intent is the same to get right into the face ...minus hands on , then the defence will be , i never touched him

Was at that game too, think it was about this time/ shortly after that there was a real effort to stamp this type of behaviour out. However it has come roaring back into the game over the past few seasons, with the powers that be unwilling to do anything to stop it.

Fanny about with VAR, offside rules etc but one of THE most critical elements of the game - respect towards match officials - is ignored.

Easy fix, adopt the rugby principles. Players gob off at ref, booked. Continue, sent off. Surround the official en masse, book every one one them. Continues over the season, dock points for failing to control players.

Behaviour of players is really spoiling the game - cheating, diving, play acting, time wasting mouthing off at officials - and they know 9/10 they will get away with it. But ruling bodies seem reluctant to do anything to stamp it out. Why? 🤷🏻‍♂️🤷🏻‍♂️

Funny as **** this thread 😂

Hopefully an official doesn’t elbow a Boro player any time soon because we will have a lot of hypocrites on here.

There seems to be an inability for people to have two thoughts at once. Robertson got booked. I’d say that was about right under the current laws given what he did. I don’t think he strayed into red card territory.

But that’s not relevant to the linesman throwing elbows!

It’s Liverpool, you never get any rational thought regarding them on here.

robbertson approached the lino from behind, at an angle... lino raised his arm, brush off robertson grabbing him? protect himself? the linesmans arm hardly extends: how close did robertson get to take one - full force - in the chops.

players, managers & clubs trying to intimidate managers & the officials getting let down by the football authorities... robertson should get a red, liverpool ( & other serial offenders ) get a warning about controlling their players...

mitrovic's 8 game ban should be drastically increased - I know it's been looked at again, for being too lenient. FA needs to have a points suspension in place for clubs who's players are out of control.

Football has a problem & it's repeatedly failed to be addressed by those running the game.

Not so long back I got tortured on here by the FMTTM Liverpool supporters club for calling out Robertson and the attitude Liverpool players display towards officials when things aren’t going right for them.

Or maybe you’re biased in the opposite way?

Robertson got correctly booked for his involvement. I don’t think it crossed the line into being a red.

The linesman then struck him.

It’s a really clear incident.

Start with the managers.

Arteta and Klopp are an absolute disgrace. Having their assistants “work” the 4th official, screaming abuse at the referee and being entirely hypocritical.

Any swearing at or confrontation with any official, red card and 3 game ban. Next time, red card and 6 game ban. Then 12, 24, 48. Will soon stop it.

Than the players afterwards. Same principles.

The culture is set at the top.
I agree with your sentiment but it goes back far further than those two. I remember Hignett saying in a Q&A in about 2016 that one of the things Aitor expected of him was to harass the fourth official to try and influence the referees.

I personally think those type of things are all relatively new things due to needless changes in the rules. Do we really need a technical area anyway? Managers used to just sit and observe the football. Now it’s all performative nonsense designed for the TV cameras. I think a technical area exacerbates the responsibilities of a fourth official but do we really need that? Not really. It’s all for telly. And all VAR is doing is just creating and fuelling more and more of this complete nonsense, this ‘content’ to drive media interest and generate traffic.

For me, two small rule changes would stop a lot of this sort of thing from happening in future. 1. Only the captain can speak to the referee. Anyone else will be immediately booked. 2. Stop the clock whenever the ball is dead. You stamp out feigning injury, time-wasting and ‘gamesmanship’ in one go. It’ll take about three weeks and these instances of dissent, abuse, cheating, will disappear.

I’d also ban pundits and TV shows from mentioning anything to do with refereeing decisions during their half-time and post-match analysis. Or not be allowed to slow replays down and view them from multiple angles while disputing something the referee or linesman has given. But that’s just me.

I think it was the first penalty Utd had conceded at Old Trafford for something like 7 seasons.
Juninho missed it after finally being allowed to take it.
