Liz Truss : is she the most dangerous politician ever?

The reason why they are the far right party is because tens of thousands of UKIP supporters (racist idiots) and Britain first (racist lunatics) have joined the conservatives in the last 5 years since the brexit win as they knew they’d be able to eventually influence policy in future leaders….and here we see it….an extreme agenda by truss (she’s nuts) and sunak selling his soul for power
Desperate situation for the Uk
The irony of Sunak doing it is many of them think of him as an immigrant - some call him a Muslim - and think he should be kicked out of the country too

Incredible to witness how these far right activists and newspaper moguls can infiltrate and wield such influence by taking advantage of a party torn asunder by Europe. Johnson was installed as the enabler whose thirst for power was such that he sold his soul. As you say very frightening.

Agree apart from PR, remember a form of it gave us the wrong Milliband.
Labour use the Alternative Vote (AV) system which isn't PR at all and the most democratic voting system imho, should be in all our elections. When you vote you rank candidates in order of preference by putting a 1 next to your favourite, a 2 for your second favourite etc. The numbers are guidance for where the vote should go if no candidate gets half the vote. The first candidate to secure more than 50% of the vote is declared the winner.

The counting takes place in rounds, so if no candidate reaches the 50% threshold in the first round of counting, the candidate with the fewest first preference votes is eliminated and the voters who put that candidate as number 1 have their vote moved to their second choice. This process continues until a winner is chosen, which is why bananaman didn't win.

‘We wanted a fresh start and we’ve ended up with batshit and the billionaire’: Inside the Tory leadership war

‘Sunak’s supporters went for Penny and now they will go for Liz. They will tear her apart. But Rishi’s team are a bunch of *****, they just weren’t as s***y as Liz’s.’

Rishi Sunak’s reaction to the final ballot of MPs at 4pm on Wednesday – in which he is filmed punching the air and telling his campaign team “we totally smashed it!” – has been widely shared and, in some quarters of the Tory party, resoundingly mocked.......

Some party loyalists who are not firmly in either Sunak or Truss camps believe that 4pm result was the moment the Conservatives lost the next election.

Truss is dangerous, alas, because she can beat Starmer. She's doubling down on right-wing rhetoric in order to preserve her lead among Tory members, but please don't forget: at least 30-35% of the electorate will vote Tory in a general election whatever happens. They're in the bag; she doesn't need to appeal to them beyond the next few weeks.

After that, it'll be all 'Our Liz, the Leeds lass'. She'll throw the odd culture war bone to the Brexit ultras but mainly her task will be to portray herself as a sensible custodian of the nation's spirit (after the recklessness of Johnson) with the express intention of shoring up the quiet Tory vote in general, and particularly in the Blue Wall, to limit Lib Dem insurgency. Expect her to distance herself from her Britannia Unchained associations: "I was wrong to call you Idlers" admits Our Liz, "but some [other] people are scroungers".

Great post and response and I fully agree this will be the line of attack the tories will pitch
When you state ; Truss can beat Starmer; You have to dial in though public sector discord with pay rises, nhs on its knees through austerity and Covid….Tory brand damage from defending Johnson’s partying whilst loved ones died alone….
I think a hung parliament at worst for labour (when factoring in the right wing press against labour) and then some cooperation from Lib Dems for voting reforms will impact the Tory vote forever

Tory MPs only ousted Johnson because they thought he would lose the next election, they'll soon get rid of Truss - after all only about a third of them wanted her, so there could be a no confidence motion next spring? Johnson stands in the next contest and if he can get enough MPs (that would be the big IF) the party membership will welcome him back like a returning hero. Yet the public still keep voting for em?!

Johnson may not be an MP by then. If the Standards Committee find him guilty and he's suspended, a by-election could be forced.

So she’s more dangerous than:

Mao Zedong?
Stalin ?
Hitler ?
Putin ?

You might not like the tories but to compare any of them to dictators of the past and being more dangerous is just plain silly .

I wouldn’t fear for my life for saying the wrong thing under Johnson , sunak or truss . I would with the evil men mentioned above

I imagine he was talking about the UK only

And even then I don’t buy it.

So long as a prime minister doesn’t cease democracy in this country and make us an autocracy it doesn’t have merit to me. Truss wouldn’t , nor would sunak . Despite the claims here that the tories are moving dangerously right our politicians are relatively moderate to other parts of the world . Despite its flaws , fptp is designed to help stop more radical parties that could be more dangerous taking a foothold

Depends on how far you want to go back , but we’ve had our fair share of dangerous politicians over our entire history

I'm sure, but the Toies have been chipping away at the rights of the population over the past few years and will continue to do so under Truss. I'm not agreeing that she's the most dangerous, but the shameless targeting of civil liberties will continue i'm sure.

You might argue that changing laws without parliamentary scrutiny is very dangerous. It shouldn't happen and is unconstitutional and a legal challenge would revers that, but still!

They’re already preparing a bill that will stop the courts legislating on any bill they don’t want them too.
No encoded constitution. They can do exactly what they want, and have been
