Luke Ayling?

Doesn’t really fit with the not signing ageing short term players.
Have the club ever said that they aren't signing shorter term players or is it just the fmttm model?
We've just got O'Brien and Greenwood in on loan in the summer.

I think it's a given that there are going to be exceptions to fill stop gaps alongside our general philosophy. There's always going to be unforeseens that crop up.

Seems to be. Gray is a really exciting player to be fair.
He does but he's playing out of position at RB isn't he? Isn't he a CM?
I guess Farke is trying to get his best players on the pitch so has him in at full back,

I think Ayling at 32 reminds me of Friend.

In their prime, both were fantastic Championship full backs, but we saw, when we let Friend go when he was 32, that his best years were behind him. I think the same applies to Ayling and I don't think he'd be worth the time and money.

He's been an excellent fullback for Leeds, but I doubt he's good enough anymore - especially for a club wanting to push for promotion.

I have no doubt he'd be a good lad in the dressing room as he always seems to have the right attitude and he seems very professional...but from a playing POV, I'm not so sure.

Could he come in and do a job given our injury situation and lack of quality at RB? Absolutely.
Is he going to come in and be the difference between going up and not going up? I very much doubt it.

I'd imagine it would be an expensive deal for a short term loan player who would result in us having to recruit for the same position again in the summer with no prospect of retaining his services due to likely problematic financial issues. Rather we go for a younger player who can be a starter long term, or if that isnt available, a loan layer with a buying option a la Greenwood.

He would be a great short term replacement for Tommy Smith. We need some nous at times in games. We have a very young inexperienced squad. He's only a few months older than Smith. As for wages...its Leeds...seems there is always a deal to be done as far as their loaned players go recently :)(y)

Michael Carrick specifically said that we wouldn't sign players to address the injury crisis but only as part of a long term strategy when asked on t' radio

Yeah, but he was on about for positions where players will be back this season.

Tommy Smith won't, and Dijksteel is currently injured again.
