Lunch out...Plus my ratings of local places to try

Devonport Hotel at Middleton One Row. Great for lunch after a walk along the river.
On Dec 26 you get to hit a golf ball over the river before you eat.
My Dad visited here last week and has raved about it, looking forward to trying it in the new year!

What do you mean, hit a golf ball over the river before you eat. Explain yourself young man !?🤔

Tocketts Mill. Lunch today in the bar, great ambiance, attentive service, decent food….overall 7/10. Would’ve been higher if the chef knew how long to cook mussels so they are perfecto. My ciabatta sandwich was lovely though.
Roaring fire, Xmas music, toasty warm 👍
Will go again and just be careful about what we order…things like mussels require expertise to get them right…

Sounds like they've got the sandwich making lark sorted. Just need to work on the ping a bit.

What about muse in yarm no report for there
Muse is great, the best of the Yarm restaurants.

Cena is good too, more basic menu but a little cheaper than Muse (owned by same people I think, who also have Bay Horse at Hurworth which is excellent too).

For lunch I'm hard pressed to think of anywhere better than Chadwick's in Barker and Stonehouse (don't let that put you off) head chef is Daryl Chadwick, of original Chadwick's in Yarm and now Maltby. Food is great, with a Greek theme.

It's a charity event on Dec 26. There's an astroturf tee set up near the bus stop. You pay a (small) fee and they'll give you a couple of golf balls and a driver, and you wallop it over the river. Or in the river. Or in the bushes short of the river. Or the grass before the bushes, depending on how good you are.

The guy in charge will estimate, out of all the competitors, who hit it the furthest. Winner wins either six weeks in the Seychelles or a free pint (judges' discretion).

Then you walk back over the road for a nice lunch at the Devonport.

Muse, Cena, the Devonport and the Bay Horse at Hurworth are all in the same group.

Only two more to add to the list this time around but I have a few new places to try over the next couple of months...
Kirkleatham Hall for breakfast - 9/10, Top quality local produce. A proper sausage makes a breakfast and this comes with a Cumberland ring.
TAO - Darlington. We ended up here by chance and wow, first time trying sushi and since then I am 100% converted. Its not just sushi they do all authentic Asian. Mrs Sergio and I shared a platter which included 6 salmon sushi rolls, chicken skewers and pork gyozas, we then ordered some California sushi rolls and A Beef Bao bun all made fresh.

It seems Darlington is quite the food hub, we visited last year and the indoor market is brimming with independent food stalls plus there is artisan bakeries such as Harrys Doughnuts and Number 8 bake house plus the Crumble bar. Its a shame a small town such a Darlo seems to have so much going on in it and ours looks like the aftermath of a zombie apocalypse.
